Extracted broken spark plug from head of PWCI neglected to replace the spark plugs in my PWC last year. The few threads that extend into the cylinder (well-known Yamaha MR-1 cylinder 3 issue) had grown some heavy rust over the winter. When I was removing the 4 plugs this spring, #1, #2, all came out okay but I really had to torque #3 and broke the plug off at the threads. I soaked the threads with Corrosion-X and PB-Blaster for a week and used one of the pieces from this Williams Extractor set with the 1/4" drive. I tapped the head of the extractor with a baby sledge till it took a nice bite into the spark plug threads remaining in the cylinder head and then was able to torque it out of the head, thank my lucky stars! I did the shaving cream in the cylinder trick to catch any bits of metal, chased the threads with a 10mm x1.0 Irwin tap, turned the engine over (with all the shaving cream and metal bits blasting out of the hole, and was able to complete my spark plug change. Be sure to use anti-seize lubricant on the threads per Yamaha's recommendation and remove/inspect/replace your PWC spark plugs every year so you don't have to experience what I went through!5What You See Is Not What You'll GetThe tools are not as depicted. The ones I received are black, no point on the small end (flat) and I wasn't aware that they were made in China. I could have paid one fifth as much for Chinese made ones. My expectations for their usefulness have been diminished. The only reason I have given it the high rating of one star is no star is not an option. Don't bait and switch me and expect to get a good rating.1Life saverUsed these to remove a broken spark plug from the cylinder head of my car. Worked so good I had to cut the broken piece off the extractor once I got it out. This is one of those tools that you wont use often but always want to have around to get you out of a tough spot5What you'd expect for the price. These are not the screw extractors you've been looking for.I have yet to find a decent screw extractor, and this one isn't it either. Quality is only okay, they do a decent job extracting screws that aren't that tough to get out in the first place. But for any really tough job they're just not up to it, just not hard enough, get old and stripped pretty easily.2The best extractor I have ever used. Extremely strong.Had to extract a sheared off sparkplug from my Harley engine. Read reviews on these extractors and bought them. I can't believe how these bite in and not spin. I put a lot of force to finally get the plug threads out and the tool did not break or bend. I would recommend this product without hesitation. It saved me.5IT works!I have a 260 John Deere Backhoe and the grease fitting at the very bottom of the boom sheared off. I was very concerned about not breaking the Easy-out off in the 1/4 x 28 thread hole since it would be the very worse place to try and fix. I used Malco SEK1 5/32 left hand drill being very careful not to damage the interior shaft. The grease fitting did not move. I then tried Malco EX-3 but the slope was too great for the spacing between the outside and the interior shaft ( it went all the way to the shaft and was loose) so that did not work. I next tried Rennsteig Dual Edge Screw but the extractor would not bite the grease fitting metal and the extractor just spun and reamed the hole despite several hard hammer blows. I finally tried the Williams 3/8 extractor and after two hammers blows it came out and it in fact split the broken grease fitting into 4 pieces. The new grease fitting went in the hole so it did not damage the threads. I must admit I was concerned that the extractor would break and that was why it was my initial 3rd choice but seeing is believing. I would recommend this product.5The Best Extractor!!The best extraction tool, ever!! I used mine for extracting broken spark plugs in a 2001 Ford Expedition w/5.4 triton engine. You will need a 8 point 3/8" drive socket set to complete the job. Saved me $1500 that the mechanics wanted for removing the heads and fixing the problem. Take your time and breath a sigh of relief.5These are great extractors. MuchThese are great extractors. Much, much better than the spiral type. I've never had any luck at all with the spiral type because they keep digging deeper which spreads the bolt or whatever causing it to be stuck even worse. I have a high sucess rate with the square fluted type such as these. I will say that what you receive is not exactly as pictured. The picture shows a center punch on the end for starting your drill bit and the ones I received are flat on the end. The picture shows a chrome or some type of plating because these are silver but what I received was black. I didn't deduct any stars because they are Williams and USA made. As long as they work well the minor discrepancies don't bother me.5Work as expected.I prefer these to the other style "easy outs" they work as you would expect from Williams. Would be 5/5 but the cost is higher than all other brands. Protos perform the same for slightly cheaper. I would recommend and buy them again4Great extracter kit Needed to get a broken spark plugs and out of my motorcycle. Did it with ease and I was panicking at first. 5Have not been able to extract a single screw yet.Not sure if I am using them correctly!? As an A&P, I use many different types of stripped screw extractors and thought I would give these a try. Tried to work with them but the standard 1/2, 6 point extractors worked better. Too bad as I thought I had something better.1
