The drive recognizes fine and I get an initial burst speed of ~190Mbps Does not work well with my Sans Digital SAN device. Extremely slow transfer rate. The drive recognizes fine and I get an initial burst speed of ~190Mbps, but then it drops down to 5 or 6 Mbps for the duration. Oh well. 1Product photo is incorrectI ordered this cable based on the photo (see attached pics). That's not what was shipped. The product numbers match, but the product does not! What a waste of time! I needed this cable to connect to an eSATA to USB adapter which I use on my MacBook Pro. What was pictured would've worked perfectly, what I received won't. Reading all of the reviews I naturally assumed this was to connect an external SATA drive. This cable is obviously for internal use in a tower with PCI slots. Returning it, I'll look elsewhere. :(1It works. Connect an eSata port to an external Sata device. As others have previously said, so long as you have a power source for your external Sata device, and an eSata port to plug this cable into, all will be well. I recently added some e-Sata ports to the back of several mini-itx systems, and already had a 12v power adapter to supply Sata power. I connected one end of this cable to the port and the other to the back of a Sata hard disk. Switched on the power, and everything worked.Of course, as the ports on the motherboards were NOT "hot pluggable" I shut off power to the PC prior to connecting and disconnecting this cable, and even if the ports were able and configured as "hot pluggable" I would still shut off the power first. Also goes without saying that I supplied power to the external Sata device before turning on the PC, etc.Only minus to this is that the cable is 3Gps rather than 6Gps. Most of the 6Gps cables available on Amazon could also double as a jump rope, and I was looking to keep the overall cable length (board to device) as short as possible. My internal cables are 12 and 18 inches, so with this 18 inch external cable the total length is kept to 3 feet or less.5Excellent Product "Time saver"Extracted data from desktop without pulling the hard-drive and avoided data loss. Desktop HDD would no longer fully boot do to bad sectors. I opened the chassis, plugged this cable into the HDD, connected other end to lap top, and pulled files from disk with out any added software.5Good length for large desktopsI installed this unit on a Dell Dimension, and had plenty of cable. (Some of the other adaptors I looked at came with only 1 foot of cable, and I was concerned about being able to route around my other PCI devices.) I had to enable the SATA plug on the motherboard. (This is accomplished in the BIOS) If your computer does not recognize your external hard drive, check the BIOS setting before assuming that there is a problem with the transition cable. There was a slight problem with the mounting bracket; the slot that fits over the pin of the computer frame was a little too small. I was able to spread the slot enough to get the bracket mounted.4Connections are not greatI bought this to add an eSATA port to a new set up that had every sort of port but that. My eSATA WD drive seemed to install easily, but after some days, the external hard drive was not recognized unless a fiddled with the connections (to the drive and to the card.) I gave up and bought an external USB3 MyDrive from WD to use instead. This USB drive runs faster and cooler and has no connection issues. Cannot really recomment the TrippLite, although it seemed like a great idea~2Just Buy ItDon't hesitate, buy it. I'm a bit fanatical about cables and connectors and this one's making me "Love it" or five stars. I purchased this to use with my new, very cool Etekcity USB 2.0 Dual 3.5" & 2.5" eSATA HDD Docking Station and it works out well. The cable is about as good as any you can buy and the external connector too. Installation is simple for anyone who can open a case and plug in a connector to a SATA port, so just buy it.5Did the trick perfectly.I recently upgraded my PC to a Solid State Drive along with another 2TB HDD for additional storage. I didn't realize before buying the components that my mobo only had 2 SATA III 6GB connectors, one of which was being used by my blu-ray drive.I got the clever idea to use this cable to go through the back of my case which has a hole for a water cooling system and into the eSATA port on the back of my rig. It worked perfectly and allowed me to install windows 7 onto my SSD without having to play with connecting and disconnecting my SATA III drives.5Connects eSata port to bare 3.5" SATA drive, with external power source providedThere has been some discussion in the reviews about exactly what the connectors are and what the cable can do. The cable I got is what the description appeared (somewhat ambiguously, because of poor quality photo) to be. I used it successfully to connect my laptop's eSata port to a bare SATA 3.5" HDD. Note that to work in this way, a 3.5" HDD requires a separate power source; I used a 12v power supply that I had on hand from another product that connected USB-to-SATA.5Quality SATA CableThis is a good quality SATA cable. I used this cable to connect my internal Blu-ray drive (with a SATA connection) to my laptop (with the eSATA connection) as an external drive while my desktop was under repair. The cable even has the metal clip on it so it cannot be accidentally disconnected. It worked great for me, my laptop recognized the drive instantly. However, an internal drive sitting on my desktop with cables coming out the back doesn't look very pretty--but it got the job done.5data saver...When my early XP system finally pooped out on me unexpectedly, and since I did not heed my own warnings to back up the data on my HDD, I looked here to find just what I was looking for.Since my new Cosmos II case implements eSATA right up on top, I figured I'd put all of my XP data on my new W7 computer. And coupled with this kit to power the old HDD, I saved my self a lot of headaches and lost money for comparatively spare change when I weighed my options. My W7 drive recognized the older XP drive with nary a hitch and I'm off and running without having to re-catalogue my music and software settings. And the transfer rates were very good, when I was told by some that it would be a poor choice to go this way.Nope. Not the experience I had. Good stuff to have just in case.5
