Not for Mac!Does NOT work with Mac OSX 10 (Yosemite)! Wasted my $!Update: I spoke with a Tripp Lite tech on the phone. He was very friendly and helpful. It appears that the cable works fine on my Mac. The problem is that I can't seem to get it to recognize the external device - a Tristar charge controller with MSview software. Even though the software company says it should work. Apparently what I need now is a serial port emulator. I downloaded one and it doesn't help fix the problem. Bottom line? The cable works fine, but may not work with the device you're attaching it to. As a result, I've changed my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. 3What a colossal waste of my time because there I was thinking that ...Trash. Did not work. At. All. Drivers which my OS could not find automatically, downloaded from their website at speeds found only back in 1995. Website is from the dark ages. Went and bought a $30 one from MicroCenter that came with a CD and it works flawlessly. What a colossal waste of my time because there I was thinking that the port was bad. Silly me. Even went out and bought a new computer. Thank goodness I had a little voice inside my head telling me to try the new-new one one more time with another brand BEFORE I opened the new laptop. Never again. 1Excellent USB to serial...I'm a ham-radio enthusiast and a Mac user. Most (but not all) of the software I use to program radios runs under Windows (so I use VMware's Fusion), and requires a USB-to-Serial conversion cable. This one works well for both Mac and Windows. It's sturdy and does what it's supposed to - flawlessly. 5Must have for serial console communicationI used the Trip Lite USB-C to DB-9 serial adapter to configure a bunch of network devices through their RJ45 serial console port (using an RJ45 to DB-9 adapter) from a MacBook Pro. This is one of the few adapters in the world I have used on a Mac that didn't make me want to throw it away immediately! The driver installation worked without any issue, and with the driver installed the devices connected properly every time I plugged it in. I believe the driver isntallation process requires a reboot to properly load the module, and I can confirm that reboot is a requirement for it to work at all. When installing the driver, recent versions of OS X will block the driver isntallation and request that you open the Security preferences window to manually approve the driver. This is a security measures that the OS makes you perform manually, and the installer will inform you of this. It's nothing that the driver manufacturer has done wrong, simply a securrity choice that Apple has probably wisely made. The cable length was plenty long to sit on a chair in front of a server rack and configure gear mounted inside without needing to unravel the RJ45 to DB-9 cable, which was nice. But if you did unravel the RJ45 serial cable and the USB-C to DB-9 cable, then you can situate yourself somewhere more comfortable or even on a crash cart. Anybody that has spent hours on a data center or network closet floor will know how valuable this can be.I used this device in 9600, 38400, and 115200 modes without any issues. So it should work just fine for most serial console port in most gear I've seen on the market. But since I didn't use it at any other speeds, I can't 100% guarantee that it will work. The chipset in this device is extremely well rated, though, and the manufacturer does note that it will work from very low to very high speeds without issue. 5Best in the market: don t waste your time with others.Unlike others I bought recently, this one actually works. Some USB to cereal null model cables have knockoff chips and can t synchronize properly. The Tripp Lite, which was recommended by JVC in their videos just worked flawlessly. I wish I had bought this in the first place and saved myself hours of frustration and the scary potential of flashing an Arm Vortex chip with the wrong data and destroying a $10k projector. I just wished I bought a longer cable, but so be it. 5Finally, something that jumped out of the box and installed itself that wasn't a cockroach!Very pleased with the quality Tripp-Lite product. I was able to use a legacy Multi-Tech modem on a Windows 10 system for faxing. It came with software/drivers and actual instructions. I could have purchased the same product for half the price on Ebay, however, I've been burnt so many times by unscrupulous Ebay sellers who ship out used products advertised as New, defective, DOA and incomplete products with zero support that I opted to pay more for the peace of mind and it was well worth it. 5Best USB to Serial AdapterWorked great to hook up laptop to a TriStar solar charge controller. Tripp-Lite was the brand that was recommended to us by TriStar when we were looking for a cable that was compatible. It is 5 ft long and seems well constructed, If you need a usb to serial cable I highly recommend this one. It has held up very well. 5The cable works as it is supposed toThis review is for the U209-005-C (USB-C connector). The cable works as it is supposed to. It uses the Prolific 2303 chipset and reports as VID:067B, PID:2303. I've had the Prolific 1.6.1 driver on my Mac (MacBook Pro 2016, macOS 10.12.4) for about a month and have had no issues. I've been using it at 115200 baud without errors. I don't know if it's an authentic chip since I haven't opened it up but I've had issues with 115200 baud on knock offs in the past and haven't experienced any of those with this adaptor. The cable is 5 feet in length as it was advertised to be and it looks just like the pictures depicted it. 5USB-C to DB9 model will not work with OSx 10.13 (only 10.12 and below)TrippLite U209-005-C will currently not work with OSX 10.13 . I've installed the latest PL2303 drivers online and OSX still does not recognize the device. ioreg will report it as a generic USB-Serial Controller D, but High Sierra will not recognize it as a serial device. I've contacted Tripplite support and got a prompt email letting me know that only OSX 10.12 and below are currently supported (as of this review). I ended up using the USB-A model USA-19HS (which uses the same PL2303 drivers). My mac only had USB-C so I had to also use a USB-A to USB-C adapter. If you need a USB to DB9 serial and have a Mac that is 10.13 and above, I suggest you go with the USA-19HS. 3Doesn't work with Mac OS Sierra 10.12.5The cable and packaging seem to be of high quality but it just doesn't work with my Mac (OS Sierra 10.12.5). I bought it to create a communications link between my UPS (CyberPower CP1000PFCLCD) and iMac. The Mac simply doesn't see it. When I use a USB to USB connection the communication link works fine but I bought this cable hoping to use the UPS USB port for connection to a NAS. There may be some workaround I'm not aware of but if you use MacOS and are hoping for a plug-and-play connection please think twice before purchasing this. 3
