So fast, it seems it's not there. So fast, it seems it's not there. Streaming multiple 4K videos is a breeze off the net and off my Plex server. I can't tell the difference between it being present or absent from a direct connection to the router. Handles everything I can throw at it. Miracast transmissions are less laggy than my previous TP-Link smart switch. The price is nice too. But I wish I had known there was a metal body version of this ethernet switch at the time I purchased it. The metal body was only $2 more during the 2017 Black Friday weekend. Oh well, I'm still happy with it since the only difference is the body, the internals are identical.5Just plug them in and Go!This is working great. Installed two at home, and some at work. I have a big screen in my garage, I put one of these behind my router and one in the garage for my computer and TV ... I can stream video again and all the equipment in my home is now Gigabyte ... Awesome. At work I put these in some of the rooms to give them wired access at every desk and a wired network printer. They are not smart switches, so there is no configuring them .. just plug them in and go.5Only 100 mb/sBought a new router because we upgraded from 100 mb/s internet speed to 300 mb/s. I could only pull 100 mb/s on everything connected to this switch. When I ran some diagnostics on the router, I discovered this switch was only advertising 100 mb/s full duplex speed. This switch crippled my network. I am extremely disappointed, as I am out $20 and now have to wait on a replacement. I will never buy trendnet equipment again.1Great product I have only been using for a few months, but I'm very happy with this switch. As expected, I plugged it in and I was off to the races. It does not matter, in my opinion that it is plastic; to say mine is warm might even be a stretch. I will definitely buy one of these again if needed. 5Good bang for your buck!!Works as described and doesn't degrade my internet speed. This switch allowed me to connect all my entertainment center devices without having to run cords across the floor. The device is pretty light so it moves pretty easily with the cords and their weight, but with a little cable management, this isn't a huge issue. The main advantage was price point for what I got, which was definitely unexpected. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase!5TrendNet TEG-S81G (8 port)Pros: Ease of setup (unbox, plug in power supply, connect hardware) Reliability (going on second year of using these switches, never a glitch or down time unless we have a power outage but that is resolved using a battery backup) Also own the 5-port version, bought this to accommodate more devices LEDs show communication with the connected hardware but not the strength of the signal Found it on sale for fifteen, a fare price, would not pay moreCons:Only serious annoyance is the plastic units are lightweight, with cables connected, the front on both units always tend to rise up from the flat position looks really cheap. Probably will have to place a couple pieces of double-sided tape on the four corners to keep it stable in the flat, horizontal position.Other thoughts:--My unit includes a sticker showing this hardware is revision 3.0--Live in a city with numerous brief power outages, have switch and router plugged in to an APC BGE90M battery backup to avoid losing internet connections--Hardware connected: router, LG 4K UHDTV, Roku Premiere+ streaming device with SlingTV, Sony 4K blu-ray disc player, Onyko stereo receiver, laptop, tablet4Exactly what I expectedI was able to unpack this, power it up and connect my devices and have it working in about 2 minutes. Very simple and very capable device. There are two things that show up a couple times in the reviews that need to be emphasized to set expectations.1. This switch is plastic and unless you have an engineering degree in cable management, it will be lifting off the desk. It could also slide off if there is a tad bit of tension on the network cables. I knew this so it does not bother me and I did not see a reason to spend $10 more to get a metal switch.2. The activity lights are green and green only. They blink with activity, but if you plug a 10mb connection into it, it will be green. If you plug a 100mb connection, it will also be green. If you plug a 1Gb connection... you guessed it, it will be green. I am not a fan of this as I would prefer a different color for Gb connections, but it does what I need.It has a large back-plane if you have multiple GB connections running at the same time, which I do not have on this switch. If you are looking for a great desktop GB switch with 8 ports, this is perfect, as long as your have the correct expectations for a plastic switch. I recommend this switch.5Excellent little switchThis specs for this switch indicate that it can handle multiple 1Gbit connections running full speed at once - the switch itself is rated for 16Gbit total throughput.Installed it to make a long-run over to another TrendNet switch in my living room for my entertainment system. Running over a 100' CAT 7 cable.Very low latency and high data throughput allows me to read data from my server systems at hard drive speeds (55 - 72 MB/sec transfer rates).Auto-sensing ports means I don't have to worry about uplink/downlink ports or cross-over cables. The switch runs on a 5V 1 Amp power supply, and uses that with intelligence, so it is extremely energy efficient. The movement of data out through the three switches that are in series (the TEG-S50G in my living room, the TEG-S81G at my switch hub, the ASUS RT-AC66U) and on to my DSL modem is much better than it ever was running from my DLINK wifi Bridge going "direct" to the wireless router. I am seeing full speed transfers from my DSL connection with none of the latency that the wifi bridge introduced. The result is more dependable connections and greatly improved streaming video. The only downside that I can site is that this model switch does not indicate connection speed on the LEDs in front. The TEG-S50G, which I also use, has separate lights for data-link and speed, so you can tell at a glance if you are only getting 100Mbit connections or 1Gbit connections.5Compact & front LED activity indicatorsTwo versions; plastic or metal caseFront panel LED port activity indicators no twisting your head around to look at the rear to see them, but;Very dim (opposite of most devices). Most are blindly bright, this is the opposite.Low power consumption, barely gets warm.Remember there are 8 ports, but one is used as the input.4DEAD ON ARRIVALThe unit arrived. Guess what....totally dead on arrival. Not even a power LED flicker. Repacked it and returned it asap. Bought a totally different brand.....1For years now, I've been using a couple of ... For years now, I've been using a couple of thrift-store half-broken gigabit switches daisy-chained together. That finally got unreliable enough that I decided it was time for something with enough ports. However, being that our budget is down to spare-change-jar levels, I couldn't buy anything too fancy.I have no complaints. Plugged it in, and it worked. Full gigabit transfer speed between my "file server" and desktop. Not sure what more you'd expect for the price. 5Great switch with no issues thus far Using this switch for my home network. I have built a PFsense router and have that box feeding this switch. The setup works great and I have no issues with this switch. I regularly download, surf the internet, and stream between my server and multiple computers on the network. This switch has been on 24/7 for the last couple months and has been great. I hope it stands the test of time. 5They just work. These switches just work. No complaints at all. I hooked them up and brought the network online. They have been installed for several months now and have not had a single issue. I have been in the tech industry for 20+ years and these work well. Are they comparable to Cisco switch well no but I didn t expect them to be but they work like a champ and my home network hums right along and the price is right.5
