Customer Reviews

Works great with Atari JaguarNot many Amazon reviewers talking about Atari Jaguar with these S-Video converters, but I can confirm this Tendak works perfectly with my Jaguar and a 2014 Samsung Plasma TV. The video switch can toggle between 720p, 720i, 1080p and 1080i, which makes it versatile for various systems and TVs. For my purposes 720i is working just fine. The image is stretched in the sense that it fills up most of my TV screen, but I wouldn't call it 16:9 exactly... there is a little letterboxing going on, and most everything seems to be the right proportions. This makes me think the top or bottom of the image might be getting cropped, but I can't really tell. I've played a variety of Jaguar games - Rayman, Flashback, AvP - and everything looks good, whether the image is getting stretched or not. While nothing technically beats oldschool systems plugging into oldschool TVs, this is a great alternative for getting oldschool in the modern era.5Perfect for retro gameing in 2019This is the absolute perfect device for people who like to play classic video games but still want modern TVs. This device will convert your composite signal to an HDMI one and will allow you to pick from three resolutions 480p, 720p, and 1080p. I use this device in conjunction with a VCR / DVD player to play my old NES/SNES systems on my brand new TV and it works beautifully. Please keep in mind that the larger the screen the worse your picture quality will be due to the upscale this box does and your tv will also upscale the image partly. Overall this is a small box that keeps retro gamers ability to play there games around to play games for years to come. (This box will also work on computer monitors if migivering is your thing.5Used to connect a vintage LaserDisc player to newer HDMI LCD TV.I bought this as an "experiment" to hook up a vintage LaserDisc Player to a newer LCD TV using HDMI.Wanted to see if it could actually "convert" the S-Video output from the LD Player to HDMI input on the TV.I must admit I had fairly low expectations as to whether this would work or give very good results. For a little background...Basically, there are usually 3 types of video output choices on these old LD players. All are analog!! You have Coaxial(cable), Single RCA Video(Yellow), and S-Video.In the "old" days, some of the better analog TV's had an S-Video input jack, and this option always provided the best video picture on the TV.RCA Video was a second best choice, and Coaxial was the least desirable.A lot of the early LCD TV's also had S-Video input, but I have not seen any with it in recent years. So I hooked up my Panasonic LX-900 LD player to a newer Vizio LCD TV using all 3 options and compared the results. To my surprise the Tendak converter did give a better picture in converting the S-Video to HDMI than the RCA or Coaxial options..Was it "significantly" better than RCA Video going directly from the LD Player into the TV? No, not significantly. But there was a noticeable enough improvement that I kept the Tendak S-Video to HDMI conversion as the connection to the TV.4Outstanding svideo upscaler. This svideo upscaler is amazing, what should be told is that you can switch which input you are using between svideo and composite, the resolutions supported are 480i/p 720p 1080i/p each can be selected by the button on the device. The picture resolution rock's I know that some would comment that it has boarders around the image and a right boarder distortion that my Ezcap286 captures. I do not care in the slightest the picture quality on the Nintendo 64 is breathtaking, no mods needed. you can actually make out wall art with text, through svideo connection, the composite rock's too just gives those standard artifacts known by this video output. Outstanding upscaler Tendak.5Exceeded my expectations...This works better than expected. I needed a device that could connect my Sega Dreamcast, Super Nes, Turbo Grafx 16, N64, Neo Geo consoles to my HDTV HDTV, and this works better than expected using Svideo conversion. 720p, or 1080p looks pretty good, very happy with this device. There is some minor visual artifacting, but doesn't ruin the image. Highly recommend this...5If you're considering purchasing this converter to use with your N64, then save your moneyI purchased this HDMI converter to use with my N64. The converter did clear up the graphics of the game I was playing (Zelda - Majora's Mask) at least a little, but the coloring on the screen was horrible. Any colors that were remotely in the darker spectrum (mid/dark blue, light/dark brown, grays, etc...) all appeared as pitch black on the screen, which basically resulted in almost half the TV screen covered in black blobs for most map areas. I tried two different 55" LCD TV's, and both of them had the same issue, and even tried adjusting the picture settings, but that did not help either.1Great at what it doesI bought this to connect my old Wii to my new Samsung 4K tv which has no provision for composite or component input. I am running all my tv inputs through my A/V receiver (older Sony) which outputs video from either composite or component input to a "monitor out" RCA connection; which, again, the tv has no provision for. My solution was to use this converter on the Wii output, then connect the HDMI to the dedicated "game" HDMI port on the receiver. WOW ... you will never see a Wii with better picture. I was running composite input to my 50" Panasonic 1080 plasma tv which has one of the best hi-def pictures I've seen even today, and the increase in video quality is amazing. Because the new tv also upconverts signals I can't say whether the converter is responsible or the TV itself or both, and I'm too lazy to pull my receiver out again (along with the spider-web of wires going to it). It would be interesting to see the converter on the Panasonic. A lot of confusion seems to exist among people looking at these devices. These inexpensive converters that I've seen on Amazon are very specific to use. They convert a specific input to a specific output and they are NOT bi-directional. This particular item converts S-video or composite input + audio into a signal carried by HDMI. It will NOT convert HDMI to composite or S-video5Works great but maybe too great for 8-bit and 16-bit games. This review is for the RCA & S-Video to HDMI box. For some reason there are reviews on here for a box that does the reverse.Like many others, I bought this device to connect vintage game systems to my HDTV (Panasonic TC-P42S1). The good news is that it works very well for doing that. I have a NES (composite), SNES (s-video), N64 (s-video), and Sega Genesis (composite) all running into a a/v switcher that then runs into this convertor. The Tendak outputs very impressive 720p (I tested the 1080 & it works too) with little to no stretching & no noticeable lag while playing. In those regards it exceeded my expectations for the price I paid. Unfortunately I am unhappy with the results. Everything is clean and for the N64 I actually like the results very much but for the NES, at lest in my opinion, the resulting larger wide screen 720p image doesn't do the 8-bit graphics any favors. The pixels are very sharp but just too big. Again, the Tendak convertor is doing exactly what it is supposed to do and it is doing an excellent job but for systems like the NES and SNES it may be doing too good of a job. I wish that the box could output a 4x3 image instead of scaling up to 16x9. I find that running the a/v switcher I'm using for the systems directly into the s-video input on my HDTV, and setting the TV to 4x3 yields more flattering results for 8-bit and 16-bit games. That being said, if you wanted to devote an HDMI port to your N64 exclusively I would highly recommend this convertor. I think the games look great (well for the N64). I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Tendak product and I'd be very interested in a version of this convertor that didn't scale the video to 16x9 or at least gave you the option to run 4x3.5For the price, it is not worth it.A few problems with this device.1. The screen is always stretched to a 16:9 aspect ratio even though the input is 4:3. Unless your TV or monitor has a menu option to do 4:3, this will stretch the image to 16:9 on a computer monitor.2. Video gets out of sync turning on a console and begins to scroll like out of sync videos did back in CRT days. (Pic included) Unplugging and replugging while the console is on solves this issue, but is annoying.3. Price - I only bought it because of the S-video input, but you can get composite upscalers for 1/3 of the price. Video quality is better than standard composite b/c of the S-video upscaling, but not worth the extra $ in my opinion.3I think these come in varying degrees of quality and if you have a gigantic screen (50 inch+) you're going to have a bad time. IOkay hear me out. I think these come in varying degrees of quality and if you have a gigantic screen (50 inch+) you're going to have a bad time. I'm using it on a 35 inch sceptre tv (also an amazon deal) and it works wonderfully. I'm using it with a nintendo 64 (via svideo) and a super nintendo. I'm more than pleased with the results. It's crystal clear, scales perfectly, and has a pleasing interface. The box feels quality and I honestly dig the bright blue LED on the device. The buttons feel nice and tactile and I don't see this going bad in the long run. It does wonders for N64 and SNES is meh. SNES doesn't upscale well on anything though even my HDMI Retron. I would suggest ordering a couple and testing out which one looks best, then return the lemons.5
