greatlow setting saves battery life and is great for when u need low soft lighting ( tent etc..) medium setting is absolutely great for close up working on electrical switches, electronics, firearms etc..high bright beam good for anything that needs to be seen from 10 to 80 ft clearly. I have been buying streamlight items for over 4 yrs now and have never been let down by the function and quality 5Awesome light without useless strobe!Great value and awesome quality. Love that it does not have that totally useless strobe feature! This besides the name brand was the reason I purchased it. Love the green light as I work at night on Aircraft and the regular light is too bright for what I am doing. Green lighting is bright and does not ruin your nightvision. Finally swapped batteries after a few months, (actually I think I messed up and left it on in my backpack), other wise battery life is very good. 5Ninety-five percent of what I do can be done on the two lowest settingsI do tenant repairs for a property management company. I often find myself under a house or in an attic. I fix or install dishwashers, garbage disposals, clogged drains, electrical problems and much more. I use a headlamp at least five times a week. I bought my last one at a home improvement store, it was ok, but the switch was always iffy and it had useless (for me) red and green lights. This light only cost about $5 more and is far superior. Ninety-five percent of what I do can be done on the two lowest settings which means the batteries will last for months, considering that I only use the light about three hours a week. I like the location of the switch and the little click it makes when you press it. The light swivels a full 90 degrees and unlike my previous light, it moves smoothly and stays where you put it. The elastic head strap is wide, easy to adjust and quite comfortable. It is light enough that I am sure I will sometimes forget that I have it on my head. On the back of the light there is a bit of foam where the light rests on my forehead, nice touch. I won't use the highest setting much, but I am glad that it is there if I need it. Mine did not come with the rubber band for fitting to a helmet. 5Great product!I purchased this head lamp for general home use and also to help while performing attic inspections as I work in the pest/rodent control industry. I found this item to be vey helpful while climbing through attics stepping from truss to truss keeping my hands free is a great help (if you've ever crawled through an attic in FL you know exactly what i mean). The fact that this little lightweight headlamp takes 3AAA batteries is a plus, as they are easily available everywhere! You have three modes starting out with a single green LED light, the second push of the top of lamp mounted button gets you two single white LED's, and one more push and your on to the single C-4 or Cree LED bulb with the focused reflector. This is the brightest mode and gives good distance (25ft or so) with a nice hot spot and decent spill. I have several other Streamlight EDC pocket lights that have higher lumen counts and take CR123A's, but this is a nice compromise for max brightness and battery life. StreamLight makes other headlamps that take the CR123A's and I'm sure they are great lights too! If you need the MAX brightness they might just be the light for you. But i highly recommend this for everyday, camping, or attic inspection! 5Comfortable, good output. Good battery life.Great headlamp. i've taken it to the middle of nowhere Alaska for a fishing trip and it worked great there, wet and damp. I use it in the garage for detailing our cars. I use it for cleaning the house. Great output of light on all 3 settings. Battery life with generic brand AAA is good too. VERY comfortable setup too. 5Love this work headlamp!Love it. Comes with a rubber headstrap for use on hardhats, it DOES NOT slip. Like the light so much, that I'm considering purchasing another so I don't have to hassle with changing straps from rubber on my hardhat to elastic for normal wear. This is a work item, and I use it nightly--I usually get full brightness for 1.5-2 nights on the high setting. I usually replace the batteries after 3-5 days of use. Takes 3 AAA batteries, which isn't bad as work provides them--it is a setback if you have to provide your own. 5IndispensableI use this for painting, electrical wiring and other tasks and find it indispensable. I like that it uses AAA batteries. (Previously I had one that required a special battery.) I use rechargeable AAA batteries in this one. The illumination can be changed from a bluish low intensity, bluish high intensity and more yellow high intensity. I have found it can be helpful to change the settings depending on the color of paint I'm using. 5I really like this productI really like this product! The "High Beam" or Spotlight mode is unreal! It throws light a lot farther than I expected and I think most users will be very pleased with that feature. The green LED works great for getting in and out of the woods for hunting big game as well. I think this is a good all around head lamp. The only thing I don't like is that you have to toggle through all of the different settings to find the one you want. 4Great Deal for a Quality HeadlampGreat headlamp! I have several different kinds for camping and hiking, but I bought this especially for the occasions where I have to work at night wearing a hard hat. The included rubber strap stays put on the hat without slipping, where fabric straps slide up toward the top and come off; this one doesn't move. The light itself is very useful, with the LEDs providing a good range of low, medium, and bright, while the C4 LED projects a mega bright penetrating beam farther than most flashlights. 5Annoying 'low battery indicator'Update: In my original review I complained about the 'low battery indicator' which is a red LED that starts flashing when the battery gets low. The problem is that whenever the red LED flashes (about once per second) the output of the light dims... So it makes the light have a pulsing strobe effect which is very distracting and annoying. The problem for me was that the alkaline batteries that came with the light lasted a LONG time after the strobing started. Really annoying to use the headlight with it doing that... However, once those batteries ran out and I started using Eneloop rechargeables, it's not much of a problem. The indicator only starts when the batteries are truly nearing the end of useful charge (light has become quite dim) so it's not as bad. However if I used alkaline batteries I'd still give this light my original rating of 3 stars (or less)......Also, a warning about loading the batteries. The 3 batteries snap into a round cartridge which you insert into the body of the light, like many small flashlights. However, unlike any other light I've used, the cartridge is keyed with a shallow slot along its length that mates with a subtle ridge in the body of the light so that you can only insert it in at a certain rotational angle. It will start to go in at some other angles, but it will start to be difficult as it goes in and can get seriously jammed if you try to force it, then you have to pry it out to remove it. I did this indoors with light available the first time I tried to change the batteries so it was only annoying...Easy way to do it successfully is to hold the light with the hole for the batteries facing up, and lightly set the cartridge on top of the hole. Without pushing down on the cartridge (just hold it lightly), rotate it around slowly until it finds the proper angle and falls in on its own. Also the battery cap doesn't have much to grip and can be a real pain to try to unscrew if you put it on too tight because it's so slippery.Anyway, some things could be improved but I'm pretty happy with the light now that I'm using rechargeable batteries.---------original review:So at first I loved this headlamp... I got it mainly for working on cars and other things where I needed my hands free, but found myself using it much more often for all sorts of things. Seems decently made (nothing has broken), though it is plastic. 3 lighting modes provide options, and even the lowest is pretty bright. I liked it so much that I ordered another. But then I reached the point that the 'low battery indicator' started blinking. This red flashing LED is not a bad idea, but the problem is that the light output from the headlamp dims every time the red LED flashes, making a 'pulsing' effect. This happens about once a second. I've used the light for hours since the 'low battery' warning started flashing, and I intend to fully use up the batteries. So I'm left with this annoying flickering/strobing effect. Imagine trying to read or do something up close with the light flickering every second. It gets annoying. I guess it's there to make you waste batteries (or charge on rechargeables). I doubt there's a way to get around this 'indicator' but I'm looking. This headlamp would have been great (given the fairly low price) without the battery indicator 'feature,' but as it is I'm not sure I'd recommend it. 4
