This the best pistol grip I've used I'm a professional photographer that shoots 1000 pics a day. This the best pistol grip I've used. The cheap sunpak is too stiff and too small for my hand (I am a 6'6" male). The amazon basics (which looks to my eyes to be the same as the dolica) is very nice and smooth but heavy - it also requires allen wrench retightening 3-4 times a year. This one is light, smooth and flawless. 5Finally! A ball head with a good design - ergonomic and usable! It's hard to express how happy I am to finally find a ball head that works so well. After going through many standard ball heads where you have to loosen/tighten those awful knobs, move the ball head with the camera, hope it doesn't sag, etc., I was about to give up and assume that all ball heads were designed like crap. This one is truly something else. It moves fluidly, DOESN'T SAG, can be locked into position to pan horizontally for panoramas, and is tight and firm. The design with the trigger is ergonomic and user-friendly. It's MUCH easier to compose images and lock the composition into place.Did I mention NO MORE SAGGING? Even with a heavy lens or when taking a vertical picture?Only con that I can think of: it is a bulky head because of the lever, so it doesn't fit in most tripod carrying bags. I just carry the head in my backpack/camera bag and attach it when I get to my destination.I'm using my tripod a lot more often now that I have this thing! 5Solid Performer This is most likely the highest quality manufactured piece of equipment I have purchased aside from my D800 and my Giottos MTL9271B tripod. It functions better than I expected, with quick, clean release and locking positioning. It isn't exactly the lightest ball head you can get but it's well worth its weight in performance. I feel like if I take care of this it will last my lifetime. Not too many things you buy these days are made like this. 5Excellent My daughter took my first one and never brought it back so I had to buy another - along with the tripod. Excellent pan-head 5Ultimate Tripod Head I tried this out first on a large format camera in a class, then bought it for my DSLR to replace the head on a heavy duty Bogen/Manfrotto tripod. Removing the old head requires removing the three set screws and rotating the old head counter clockwise. This head screws on in reverse. Then replace the set screws. Some people said they had problems, but it went on easily. However, there is a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter in the bottom of the head, and the instructions don't mention it. I had to remove it to screw on the head. My tripod conveniently has a spot to screw in the adapter so it doesn't get lost. The plate went on easily, and with a little trial and error you can adjust the head to shoot in portrait mode. No slipping with Canon 50D with 18-200 telephoto lens, so the weight was not a problem. Secure and easy to adjust. The size of the head makes it a little harder to find a tripod bag, I got a ProMaster 35 inch TB 5 and while it is tight, I can zip it up. 5Almost perfect. Okay, I really like the pistol grip. It's flexible, can rotate into a vertical position easily and it's REALLY solid quality.I'd give it a 5 if it had two things:1) A lock or snap postion for horizontal (bring it to horizontal and allow it to move right or left easily). As it stands you have to get the bubble level and then rotate the head mount. Would be nice to have a "by feel" way of doing this with the pistol. I'm often on a horizontal surface with fully extended (level) feet).2) A better mounting mechanism. I find the mount cap to be somewhat clumsy to load on, although it's very solid. Every time I break it out I have to learn which way the thing goes to take it off! 4excellent head for tripod This is the second purchase of this type of head for my tripod. It is easy to use and quick to rotate for verticle picture taking. The grip is also very user friendly. You don't have to turn knobs, just squeeze. Will hold heavy lenses with no problem and there is no creep. 5I love this trigger-release ball head I love this trigger-release ball head. I've tried about every type of tripod head there is and they all have had their shortcomings. . but not this one. I didn't realize how much time and distraction the other type of designs were until I put this baby on my new Slik Pro 824CF tripod. Squeeze the trigger and aim the camera almost as easily as if you were hand-holding it. Let up and it totally locks. . It stays exactly where you aimed it. There is no drift or slippage. Amazing! When you squeeze the trigger the ball floats with almost zero friction. It's so easy to position that I squeeze the trigger, aim the camera so I can half-press my shutter to lock focus and exposure. Then I effortlessly recompose, release the trigger, and push the shutter the rest of the way to complete the shot. It's a single, fluid procedure that's almost as simple as just hand holding the shot, but with the stability of a tripod. It feels so unencumbered that I'm using my tripod more and more for perfect shots. Also the locking mechanism for the shoe is a delight to use. It has a flip-over tab on the head of the tripod screw so you can get it really tight into the camera. Then, when you push the camera shoe into its mating surface on the head it snaps firmly in place. You push the locking lever a little further and it is totally secure with no danger of accidentally disengaging. But when you want to remove it you don't have to fool with extra locking pins. One flip of the locking lever and camera is instantly released. Great design. Elegant. Rugged. 5I am pleased with my purchase. I have a Manfrotto tripod and had to buy a Manfrotto's adapter because the thread sizes are different between the head and the tripod. After working through that, I am very happy. The product works as expected and I recently used it for a trip through North Carolina photographing the changing colors. It supported a Nikon D800 with a heavy telephoto lens with no problems.I purchased this rather than Manfrotto's ball head and trigger release because I like the handle up and down like this one is, and Manfrotto's is out to the side. I had trouble getting used to that. 5Slik Pistol Grip Tripod Head This is my second one of these. The first one my oldest son now has. I love the pistol grip control 5
