Customer Reviews

One Stop Review - Everything you need to know.I spent a lot of time on the net and on Amazon searching for a screen protector for my Galaxy Nexus. I will completely admit that I hate screen protectors and in my experience, they never last, diminish screen clarity, are overpriced, difficult to install properly, and leave me more frustrated than thankful when owning one. That was until I got my hands on this protector. This review is a description of my personal experience but I used many tips and tricks from other reviewers here on Amazon when I bought my protector. I am not trying to steal from their reviews, I am simply describing my experience which involved their tips and tricks. This screen protector goes on wet. I am a lint and bubble making pro in most cases when it comes to applying these screen protectors so,'wet' seemed like the way to go. The wet application of this one makes it almost impossible to screw it up but you need to follow some basic tips.1. Before you even open the box, you should go to YouTube and watched the installation video at least once. I did this before I even bought it. It is only 5 minutes and worth it.2. Make a special time to install your protector. I know, this sounds silly but from other remarks and reviews I read, it seems that some people mess these up when they handle their phones too soon. I started by forwarding my calls to another phone and then I pulled the battery out of my device to prevent accidental powering on. I chose a Friday night for installation because I sleep in a bit on Saturdays and I wanted to ensure the maximum amount of time to settle and dry. Then, make sure you have a clean work area free and clean hands.3. When applying the film, use a lot of the spray. With the battery pulled out of the phone, the non-conductive spray won't hurt the speaker or anything it comes in contact with and it dries without damaging any electronics. Use plenty of spray on your hands, the device, and the film. This makes it easier to install and set up straight. Of all things to think of during the installation, getting it straight is the most important thing!4. I chose to not use the squeegee wedge thing. Unfortunately, this squeegee card has rough edges to it and there are some sharp little bits on there that have been reported to scratch the film. Alternatives you may think of are: a rubber squeegee, rubber spatulas, a driver's license, business cards, or anything non metallic that would make a good squeegie. Windshield wiper? I actually just used my lint free cloth to "rub" the moisture out.5. Once applied, be prepared for the protector to look like poo! Seriously. Just make sure it is straight. When I applied mine, I thought it looked horrible. I remembered reading that it would have some bubbles but they dissapear after a few days. Mine looked like there was "fizz" underneath. To my dismay, the fizz congregated by the next morning and formed half a dozen air pockets (aka, bubbles). I was pretty irked but remembered what I read, it will go away. After another day, they were all gone. Amazing! Be patient, once you are past the initial installation, do not try to re-do it or get rid of the bubbles, they will go away! This protector has proven to be the clearest film I have ever seen. Yes, there is a small amount of orange peel, but that is intentionally there by design and does not affect the viewing of your device. The film is self-healing and will get some bumps and dents and whatnot in it over time. These imperfections cannot be seen from the viewing angle and they "heal" over time. If you happen to encounter a "permanent" wound to your skin, it is backed by a lifetime warranty and Skinomi will send you a brand new skin (sans shipping) in exchange for your damaged one. In other words, you get a lifetime worth of screen protectors.I would reccomend this protector to anyone that asks and I am extremely impressed with both it's clartiy as well as it's quality. Given the warranty, it appears I have paid for my last skin for at least the next two years. 5Another quality Skinomi Product!I ordered this Skinomi for my Galaxy Nexus within days of buying the phone, and I ordered the phone the day it came out back in December. I was amazed that Skinomi already had a skin for my phone.I am very familiar with Skinomi skins as I had one on my last 2 phones and I have recommended (and installed) them on many phones for friends and family. It is important to know that many people who claim that a skin has bubbles under the skin is because they didnt follow proper directions. There is no possible way that a bubble that appears under a skin can be the fault of the skin itself, it is always, 100% of the time the fault of the installer. If you follow the directions on these skins properly, you will have a perfectly fitting skin every time. Keep in mind that some bubbles immediately after installation are normal and they WILL work themselves out. Cheaper, hard plastic skins wont do this. If there is any bubble after you are done, it will always remain there. Some people criticise Skinomi's because they give your screen a textured look after its done. They show fingernail presses for quite a while after they're installed. That is a result of the "gel-like" material that the Skinomi is made out of and is not a fault with your skin. This look is totally normal, and if you dont like it, don't blame the skin, you just have a preference that differs from how this skin is designed to work. All skins should be a tad bit (1-2mm) smaller than the actual screen of your phone. If every skin went perfectly to the razors edge of your screen, it would get snagged easily and would start peeling. I see reviews of people saying the skin is too small. This is also intentional and is not a defect (unless of course the gap is more than 2mm).The Skinomi skin is as good of a skin as you can buy, for a fraction of the price. If you follow the directions, or have someone who is experienced in installing skins on a phone do it for you, you will be happy with the results and this skin should last you for the life of your phone. You wont have to keep replacing it like you have to with other cheap skins. Finally, there is one thing you should be aware of, that has bitten me once on a prior phone. Because of the gel-like nature of the Skinomi skin, the screen can become slightly "tacky" when it gets warm. So if you are in the habit of keeping your phone inside your pockets, your body heat may cause the screen to become ever so slightly tacky. If you also keep money or other pieces of paper in that same pocket, the paper can become stuck to the screen if you leave it in there too long. It will come off, but it may leave a residue behind that will last for a couple of days. This is probably the only flaw I can possibly think of with these skins, but again, its due to how they're made, and I dont think that this should detract from all of the other great qualities of this product.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! 5Worked well During over about a year and 6,700 miles of Bicycle TouringI have used two of these. One I purchased, and the other I was sent by Skinomi in return for writing a review. I did not agree to pushing their product, only to write a review.I have used these skins during the past year on two Nexus smartphones. One is a Verizon unit, belonging to my company. I used this daily during two solo bike tours. My company wanted to be sure I remained in contact. The first trip was 3,100 miles/ 9 weeks from San Diego to Florida ("Southern Tier") and the other was on my recent 3,600 mile / 3 month tour from Seattle to NW Montana, Yellowstone, Colorado and Utah. The second skin I installed on my personal Google Nexus smartphone. I have used this for perhaps 6 months during the past year, mostly in cleaner, less dusty conditions at home in Seattle.Overall, I would say these skins have worked well. During my bike trip I was often in dusty conditions (as when cycling across the Sonoroan and Chihuahaun deserts in Texas), and frequently had to wipe the screen clean. It did not scratch. It would of course get covered with smudges but these wear fairly easy to remove with water (or spittle) and whatever tissue I had in my pocket or bike bag. The screen did not get abraded and occluded as happened with a generic screen protector which I had used earlier. The covers are a little more challenging than normal to install, but the instructions are clear and easy to follow. After installation, most but not all of of the retained bubbles disappeared from under the skin. The remaining ones were not obtrusive. There was a slight "rippling" left on the skins in places but also not obtrusive. (A bit like alligator skin). Today I watched a video on one of the smartphones and the image was fine.Other than the generic one mentioned above, I have not used other skins. Yet I am sufficiently pleased with the durability of these two Skinomi skins that I would purchase them again. 4Pretty good and worth the priceDisclaimer, I gave this 5 stars but if I had the option, I'd give it 4.5, I just happened to round up.I bought two of these last December when I bought my Galaxy Nexus because, despite having scratch-resistant glass, tiny scratches were appearing all over my screen. The first one I applied actually did really well. I did it very carefully and only had one very small bubble in the lower right corner that I couldn't get to go away. I used this protector for about 9-10 months until I dropped my phone and cracked the screen. Although it wasn't perfect, I felt it held up really well. I'm used to the hard plastic screen protectors (this one is more rubbery feeling) and the hard ones scratch up and need to be replaced every few months. I do this for my wife's iPhone about 5 times a year. The Skinomi actually took a beating pretty well and always felt good to the touch. After replacing my screen I installed my second Skinomi screen protector last night. I was very careful and I felt it went really well (better than the first one). This morning though I had maybe five bubbles that didn't seem to want to dissipate, although the rest of the protector dried up and looked well. These five bubbles are not noticeable when looking at the screen with a dark image, however they are very noticeable when the screen is off and the screen looks like a rainbow under the bubbles when the background is light/white. Not good, I didn't like it.This afternoon I got impatient with the bubbles and tried something which seemed to work ok. I heated the thing up with my wife's hair dryer until it was quite warm then used the little plastic card to gently scrape the bubbles towards the edge of the screen. In some cases this fixed the bubbles perfectly, in other cases it dispersed the bubble well enough that it is neither very noticeable with the screen off or on. As a matter of fact, it's now nearly perfect. So bottom line is based on my experience with the first one I installed, these things hold up really well. If you get it on just right and work gently to get all of the bubbles out both before and after the thing dries, you'll be in pretty good shape. I anticipate that, if I don't severely damage the protector OR crack my screen again, then this protector should last me a year until I get a new phone next fall.Bottom line, I felt this was pretty easy to install by carefully following the directions, and it gives me total peace of mind knowing that my screen is well protected. I will certainly buy more of these protectors for other gadgets I own in the future. 5Great First TimeThe Samsung Galaxy Nexus was my very first smart phone. I got it the day it came out after spending tons of time reviewing it. I was a little slow to buy a case because I knew I was going to baby the phone to death to keep it safe. I eventually got a case, but screwed up putting the screen protector on that came with the case. I went the following six months without a screen cover.A week ago I took my phone out of my pocket and saw a small, half in long vertical scratch and an even smaller one next to it. I guess something like sand, glass or a small pebble must have been in my pocket that I keep my phone in since I keep it alone for safety.I decided to look on Amazon for a screen protector with good reviews and I found the Skinomi TechSkin. I watched some reviews online to make sure it was a good product and bought two of them. One for me, and one for my girlfriend. What I Like:Packaging - Yes, it was awesome for something I thought would show up in a legal envelopeContents - No need to use a credit card to smooth the protector out because you get a little, foam squeegee.Installation - With the wet solution, I didn't have to worry about getting it lines up before the adhesive bound to the phoneWhat I Like Most:My Scratch - I CAN'T SEE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!What I Don't Mind But Others May Not Like:Orange Peel - When the phone is off or is black, the protector has a bit or an orange peel texture to it under light. I honestly could care less about this but I figure it is worth mentioning.Awesome product with a cool YouTube channel! 5Yes, this IS the protector you should use...My review/comparison between Skinomi and TechArmor screen protectors:Having never installed a screen protector on any of my devices, I decided to spend a little extra and buy different ones from a couple of the top rated manufacturers on Amazon. Skinomi and TechArmor. Since I had no idea what I would like, I tried two different TechArmor protectors for my tablet (one HD clear and one with the matte anti-fingerprint, anti-glare), and bought a Skinomi TechSkin for my phone.Phone installation was first and was pretty straight forward. I was glad to have read some reviews, and knew in advance that immediately after installation the screen doesn't look that good. Since it's a wet application, it really does take a full 12 hours before it's all clear and smoothed out. But, the screen has a nice feel to it and the clarity and sharpness is excellent.Next was the installation of TechArmor (matte finish) protector on my Nexus 7 tablet. This protector is by far the best choice for being fingerprint resistant, but the clarity of text and images was diminished enough that I opted not to use it at all. The installation of the HD clear version of the TechArmor protector followed. Image and text clarity are perfect but it really provides no resistance to fingerprints at all. The feel of it was also a little too grippy for my preference.During the days of this experiment, I was using my phone with the Skinomi TechSkin, and liking it more everyday. The choice was really simple. Skinomi TechSkins somehow have found a way to provide perfect clarity for text and images while being VERY resistant to fingerprints. You will still wipe off your screen from time to time, but I'd say this protector reduces the problem with fingerprints by 70%. Naturally, I bought the same TechSkin for my Nexus 7 tablet. The wet application is a little more difficult in general and especially on a larger screen. I totally screwed it up and ruined my Skinomi TechSkin for the tablet. Knowing it was my own fault, I had little doubts that I would have to buy another if I wanted it. Nevertheless, I emailed Skinomi support about what happened. To my surprise (and delight), they only asked for a copy of my order, a picture of the ruined protector and the code that comes with the documentation in the box. With that, they actually sent me a free replacement! If that's not excellent customer service, I don't know what is....Before attempting the second installation of the same protector on my tablet, I watched the youtube video they tell you about in the instructions and noticed that I wasn't using nearly enough spray. This really solved all my problems. If you have enough spray on the protector, it's fairly easy to get it perfectly into place. Otherwise, it's nearly impossible. That's the only advice I'd give - watch the video and see how much they use and do the same. You'll have no issues.I now have Skinomi TechSkins on my phone and tablet and couldn't be happier. With the money I spent in this little experiment, take my advice and just by yourself the Skinomi. You'll be glad you did. 5Perfect fit and easy applicationI was using only dry fit protectors for both my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 device. I never got any one of them fit perfectly to the screen. You have just one shot and after that in all my attempts, I realize that either the protector was not aligned good and has some loose corner, or it managed to get some hair or dust underneath, which remains as an ugly white bubble in the middle of the screen.Skinomi TechSkin was complete opposite to that experience! I found the wet application technology really quite handy. With the wet protector applied on the screen surface, you have plenty of time to adjust it and correct it and then push the bubbles out. The final result was astonishing! The only thing I dislike a bit is that I cannot buy just a separate skin. With the set I got, now I have a barely used application solution, a cleaning cloth and an application rubber squeegee left. And I have another Galaxy Nexus - that of my wife. I would like to buy a protective skin for it too, but I don't need another application set again. And I would love to have the extra skin for half or quarter of the set price. 5Installed great and it's invisibleI previously had a Zagg screen protector on a Samsung Galaxy S1 (the i9000) which I lost, but had it for about a year. Here are my thoughts when comparing these two products:Installation:Installation is pretty much the same on both products. Make sure you watch the video first and apply plenty of fluid so the screen slides to the correct position when you're applying.Winner: none, both the sameTouch and feel:The Zagg had and orange peel which I kind of liked. The Skinomi is completely smooth and it feels just like glass when you swipe or touch.Winner: SkinomiProtection:I'll have to say that my previous phone with the Zagg protection went through a lot and never had a problem. I just installed the Skinomi protector a few days ago so the jury is still out. That said, I'm sure this will do just fine.Winner: none, both the same unless something different happens and I'll update this review. One thing that happened with the Zagg protector is that it got a little dirty after a while. I also had it on an iPad 2 and after 3 months I had to remove it because it was so dirty. I tried to clean it to no avail. O the Galaxy S it also got a little dirty but no big deal. Let's see if that happens on the Skinomi. So far so good. I've been using it for just a few days, but loving it: invisible to the eye and to the touch. I definitely recommend as this is the best protection you can give your phone, especially if you're a girl... With longer fingernails and the habit of throwing the phone in the purse (where there are keys, coins, etc.) really scratch screens. If something happens I'll update this review. 5Gets the job done...My experience with this was very similar to other wet application protectors... to include InvisibleShield. Provided you have everything wet and a good sense for lining things up, it goes on easy enough. It will get clear and adhered within the first 12 hours if you know how to squeegie. I used the included one, which was much better than the scrapers/cards I've gotten in the past.It appears durable enough, maybe not sandstorm on an Apache blade tough, but good for my needs. It has scratched and dented easily, due to its soft nature but, I have been able to "press" them out or they clear on their own. The tack feel of it doesn't seem to slow my swipes across the screen either. The protector leaves about a 1ml gap from the true edge of the screen but it is hardly noticeable and none of the edges have curled. They made cutouts for the camera and sensors separately instead of a huge gap that encompasses them all. Those tend to peel faster. I have never used a static cover before bit plan to at some point in the future for reference...In conclusion, I assume the price you pay for this takes lifetime replacements into consideration, which is nice but, it seems similar to the other cheaper, and sometimes pricier variants available.Update 8-27-2012: Well... the self-healing properties seem to have gone away. Granted, the protector has done it's job but, even light fingernail contact seems to make impressions on the screen. None of this is visible when using the phone though. However, other than the little bottle of liquid and the quality squeegie they include, I can't say that this is any better than cheaper options. Removed a star. 3Mixed EmotionsReceived the product fairly quickly. Was pretty much as described. The thing I liked about this protector was it didn't have the orange peel look and feel of the ZAGG Invisishield protector I had previously purchased(zagg is garbage by the way). That is where my positive outlook on this product stops. I have installed several protectors and never had any problems with scratching or bubbling. This one went on fairly easy and with very minimal bubbling but the cheap plastic card they included for instillation irreversibly scratched the skin to the point of no return. Even then I wasn't going to leave a negative review but over a week has gone by and I still haven't heard back from the seller. If they would have responded promptly and shipped me a replacement I'm fairly certain this skin could be great. I definitely recommend if you do decide to purchase this be very careful when applying, use a soft material when smoothing out the bubbles or you will be stuck with more scratches than you know what to do with. In recent days I have done a lot of research and decided to try the HALO and Steinhill brand as they seem to be more scratch proof. Hope this helps.I am amending this return because the seller contacted me and refunded the money even though I didn't ask. Apparently it was just some timing issues with the holidays. I highly recommend giving them a chance. I actually received a personalized email from them. KUDOS.Brian 30yo male 3
