Review for the Blackberry Priv Clear Screen ProtectorThought I would add some more specifics about this screen protector specific to the Blackberry Priv.Positives1) The updated cut outs for this screen protector are spot on. Top speaker, front facing camera, and even the dimensions for the curved edge screen are all accounted for.2) Screen protector is quite durable and if you did not apply the screen protector to your liking the first time you can simply peel it off, reapply the spray to the adhesive side, and try again. I must have reapplied the screen protector 15-20 times and there is no visual imperfections that I could tell after letting the screen protector set.3) Good support for their products and very helpful customer service. I had ordered this screen protector very early on and without asking, they had found that they needed to make some adjustments to the cut outs and notified me of the issue and sent me an updated screen protector with the revised cut outs free of charge. They also stand by their product and when I needed a replacement for another device they did so with no hassle.Negatives1) Installation instructions are simple, but like most screen protectors difficult to perfect With the curved screen of the Blackberry Priv this also makes it a little more challenging compared to other devices (more on that later).2) Not all nicks and dings self-heal but this is true for virtually every screen protector.Main installation issueThe issue that I ran into is that if you follow the Skinomi installation video and leave the adhesive side so wet that it moves freely across your screen; it is going to be extremely challenging to have it line up correctly and have the edges set around the curved edges of the screen and corners (without any air bubbles). However if the adhesive side is too dry, it will leave a noticeable discoloration that can not be smoothed over. I will probably need some verification, but I do not believe this discoloration will disappear after the setting in period either (this happened when I used a different set of screen protectors from Skinomi for an LG phone and only realized this was the issue when seeing that same discoloration while installing this screen protector with too little solution).Tips1) The key is to apply the right amount of solution. What I did was evenly spray a thin layer of solution on the adhesive side at about 6 inches away and then waved the protector in the air a couple of times to "air dry" it a little (of course make sure you are doing this in a dust free environment). Then when I applied the screen protector you will feel that it will cling to the screen a little more tightly and doesn't move so freely around the screen. It will allow just enough movement so that you can line up the cut outs for the speaker and front facing camera but won't move so freely that the edges won't set.A) You do not want so much solution that it will slide easily back and forth across the screen with little to no effort.B) You do not want so little solution that you see light discolorations as you are setting the screen protectorThe goal I feel is right in between A) and B). As soon as you have it set the way you want begin smoothing out all the air bubbles immediately.2) What I described is going to take some trial and error but like I mentioned it is safe to reapply the solution to the adhesive side and try again until it is how you want it. I went so far as scratching off dust particles off the adhesive side, scratching up the corner of the screen protector so I could peel it off to reapply, many different amounts of solution to the adhesive side, and rather aggressively smoothing over the screen protector to get rid of air bubbles... none of which had an effect on the appearance in the end.3) I do recommend letting the screen protector set over night with the phone off.ConclusionI can't imagine it is easy releasing updated cut outs for new devices so fast (especially when they have unique dimensions). Skinomi did a good job here. Thank you for releasing it so fast and allowing me to enjoy my new phone with that added peace of mind.4Wow. This thing is awesome. This protector is ideal in many ways. I just pulled it off because I thought I'd destroyed my phone... Anyway, the phone is fine, and I have nothing but good things to say about this protector. It's a little fiddly to get installed, and it may have bubbles for a couple days, but it is SO worth it. I was looking for a hard plastic PET screen cover, but couldn't find one. I'm glad I didn't.It's got good clarity, good abrasion resistance- I carry it in my pocket, work on cars and with machinery, and lots of grit. Even with all that, it lasted tolerably well into the second year. Here's what really impressed me- I did quite a bit of arc (stick) welding at my last job. A glob of the spatter landed in my pocket on my screen. I thought it must have burned through this soft protector and into the plastic of my screen... Well it didn't! Yeah. It took a glob of MOLTEN STEEL landing on it like a champ and kept on doing its thing for months after. So yeah. Six stars.5Good quality screen protectorHave had this screen protector on my phone (BlackBerry Priv) for about two months now and have been thoroughly pleased with it. While the application is somewhat different than most (and you will want to apply it at a time, such as overnight, when you won't be using your phone for awhile) it works well. Once dried the protector both does not move around on the phone and is easy to remove if you want to do so. Haven't had any issues with it affecting touch screen usability and the cutouts for top speaker and front camera are perfectly place.5Worth itLove this company's product. Yes, they are more expensive than others, and you only get one screen, but that's because you only need one. Their very clever 'wet mount' procedure (it is essential that you watch their instruction video first ) really works and any micro bubbles that still might be there after applying the scree, magically vanish in a day or so. Have this screen protector on all my gadgets.5When I bought my Blackberry Priv at the AT&T store ... When I bought my Blackberry Priv at the AT&T store they tried to install another brand of screen protector at the store and failed miserably. I decided to get my own and picked this one out. I installed this screen protector in 5-10 minutes and the few bubbles present went away after a few days as described in the instructions. I bought an extra in case I struggled installing the first one but I clearly did not need it. 5Despite all that packaging they don't provide a little plastic card to push the air bubble out and instead recommend you use a cSeems overly complicated to install. Packaging was a bit overkill with a lot of space dedicated to just a small spray bottle. Despite all that packaging they don't provide a little plastic card to push the air bubble out and instead recommend you use a credit card. It's a bit scary to only have 1 screen protector (other companies ship 2 or 3) so there's a lot of pressure to get it right on the first pass. Some micro bubbles form when you spray the plastic and adhere it, which they say go away after 24 hours. The micro bubbles did go away after that time, but it was a bit annoying to not know right away that the screen would be clear. Just had to trust that the bubble would disappear and they did. 4 stars because of slight annoyances with it, but overall the results were good.4Superb customer supportThe Priv is my first smartphone and i've never had a screen protector before (so i'm not exactly an expert on screen protectors) but I bought this over a year ago and it has been on my phone ever since. It has been slowly developing rough parts, scratches and not-quite-bubbles over the last year but with use i suppose that's expected. I guess i should also mention it took a few tries to get it positioned right and bubbles removed. Hasn't started peeling either.I'm only now rating it (and giving it 5 stars) because of the Skinomi support. They claim to offer a Lifetime Replacement Warranty and I figured i'd call on the off chance they actually honor it. To my surprise, they do. Not only do they honor the warranty but it took less than 5 minutes from when I called to when I hung up with a replacement shipment scheduled... free of charge. Holy crap.5Really messy installationSuccessful installation requires the viewing of an instructional video, a super clean environment and a steady, patient hand. The application of a liquid spray is involved. Curved screen of the PRIV was a real challenge. My end result was bubbled up and messy. Even after two days the bubbles didnt disappear as promised in the docu. Ended up throwing it away. Waste of money. The dry application films are much easier to install.1OK But DisappointingI had high hopes for this, based on the reviews. Plus I freely admit that since this is my first "wet" installation I could very easily have screwed it up. Nevertheless, since this is not my first installation of a screen protector, I think I may be qualified to venture an opinion. The biggest problem with protecting a Priv is the curved sides of the glass. Different manufacturers address this problem in different ways. Tech Armor, for example, addresses the curve problem by making their protectors far too narrow to give the curved part any protection at all. Skinomi does it by using a flexible film, and therefore gets 100% coverage. BUT, the disadvantage of this approach, is that it LOOKS like a film, complete with that slight waviness you get with films. In some ways, it is similar to the protective film you have to remove when you get a new phone or other device. Along with this appearance issue, there is also a moderate, but noticeable decrease in the sensitivity of the device's touchscreen. I have to tap it just a little bit harder to wake it up, which isn't that big a deal except when you are using the keyboard's "swipe" feature. I have had several times where the reduction in sensitivity is just enough to occasionally prevent the word you have swiped from appearing as it should in the body of the email or text. To those who just tap the screen to type this is probably not a big deal, but with the swipe not performing as well as it should, then this could be a dealkiller. At the same time that I ordered this Skinomi screen protector I also ordered the IQ Shield version, which is essentially the same thing. My plan is to pull this one off and install the other. For all I know it may have the same problems........but we will see.Update: The IQ Shield may be a better product, but with some caveats. It went on very nicely, but unlike the Skinomi version at first it would not "stick" to the curved edges. But where there is a will--and blue painters tape--there's a way. I put the tape on the skin and wrapped it around the curved glass edge. A few hours later I took off the tape and the edges were nicely in place.Having said that, I really don't see a huge difference between the two products. And I freely admit that the problems I had with the Skinomi product could very easily have been "operator related". In the end, though, its the IQ version that is on my phone right now.3Very sticky lint magnetIt seems like a great screen protector. The skin is fairly accurate, and I've always liked the urethane type protectors. However, God help you if you so much as get a single hair or any lint floating in the air during installation. I thought I did a good job during installation. Later in the day I discovered a hair on the screen and realized it was under the screen. After lifting that part of the skin off, I couldn't remove the hair because of how stick the skin was (which is normally a good thing). I eventually had to remove the skin and run it under water (while using a very mild soap to try to lift the hair off). I eventually succeeded, allowed the skin to dry, and reapplied it. A few hours later, I discover ANOTHER hair under the screen (I blame the cats this time). I went though the whole cleaning and reapplication process a third time. When the skin dries, it is just as sticky as the first; despite having some wavy spots from repeated smoothing with a credit card. This morning I discovered little bits of lint under the skin. At this point, I give up. I had to throw out the skin after 48 hours. Maybe I'll risk not using a skin protector for a while...Despite all this, I would say that the product could be improved by including a rubber wedge/squeegee for application. Most screen protector kits do, and using a credit card can be a little rough on the screen (if a corner catches, it damages the skin).4it's incredibly easy to peel offI do feel this screen is durable and resistant against scratches. However, every tiny bump of my finger or nail leaves marks on it. Also, it's incredibly easy to peel off, I've had it on for a little over a week and the edges have already started to peel off. I installed it exactly per the directions with no bubbles or anything so I don't really understand why it should peel of so easily. It's okay.3
