BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!!I purchased the Fotodiox EZ-Pro Octagon Softbox 60" with Speedring for Bowens Gemini Standard. I go on locations for photoshoots and the ease of assembly is exactly what I was looking for. I bought the Fovitec - 1x 32 inch Photography Portrait Beauty Dish Softbox w/Grid - [Lightweight][Durable Nylon][Easy Set-up][Bowens Mount] to compare as far as assembly and the Fotodiox definitely won! Just the shear amount of time to set up the Fotodiox was enough to make me want to buy the 36" Fotodiox and replace my Fovitec. The only thing is the build quality, Fovitec was way better w/ the material quality. However, my personal opinion is that regardless of the material quality - Fotodiox wins for me just for the assembly. It isn't hard or difficult at all to set up (pretty much an umbrella type setup), even without instructions!4Fotodiox Customer Service was Great, initial QC not so much.If you had asked my a month ago, I would have given this a 1 star rating. BUT, Fotodiox customer service was awesome. I first ordered this softbox and it took several weeks to arrive. After it arrived the speedring would not fit on my Photogenic Lights. I sent it back and ordered again thinking the wrong speedring was shipped. Second softbox arrived with the same issue. So, I wrote them about my issues. They told me that they had reports of the problem and that they could send me the fix. Well, I had already ordered a replacement speedring directly from Fotodiox and once it arrived, it fit fine. I emailed them the good news and they offered to refund me the cost of the replacement speedring. They refunded my account within the hour. So, I am a happy photographer with a product that is so easy to set up and produces wonderful light. Their customer service saved the day and I highly endorse this product. I reduced by one star for the lack of quality control in the first place. Thank you Fotodiox for a prompt, friendly and proper resolution to this strange issue.4My Preferred Modifier OVER My $400 Big Name Brand Octabox! When I leave my house. The options I have are a Rotalux 39" Deep Octabox from Elinchrom or this $60-70 thing...I always choose this. It's just so super easy to set up and the Rotalux is a few steps behind with its individual locking system. On a serious assignment where I know the catch light might be visible or reflections on products I must choose the Rotalux. The one fault of this light is poor uniformity across the face of the scrim because the massive metal webbed cage that makes this thing so damn sturdy. But those chances are few and far between...and then, of course, there are the assignments where you need to present yourself with a particular "image" and having an Elincrhom modifier is much nicer than an Amazon special. haha The truth is: VERY well built, beautiful light comes off this thing, and it's very cheap.I need to point out that I bought this and got a very high quality Bowens Mount with it. When I ordered the 12x56 softbox, it came with a total piece of junk Bownes Mount that I asked for a return. The second one had an even WORSE mount!!!! So Amazon ultimately refunded me the money I needed to buy a quality mount from Impact - which matched the one sent with my original 36" Octabox. So keep this in mind. They could be sending cheap pieces with some kits. 5A great diffuser for the money.Convenient and well-made softbox. The speedring is made of a flimsy metal so you would need to use care not to drop it. Diffuses even, balanced light and is collapsable for easy transport. I have done 14 photo shoots at varying locations so far with this box and have yet to experience any failures. Worth the investment.5Very nice stripbox, but doesn't match the Price-Value that the Ez-Pro Octabox providesI purchased this after getting the Ez-Pro 60" Softbox -- the quality was very impressive and ease of use was a huge seller for me. Looking for something of similar quality, I picked up the 12x56 softbox and eggcrate grid. The "EZ PRO" is the important part to look for in their products as they assemble very easily, much like an umbrella. The ribs are very sturdy (fiberglass), much stronger than any umbrella I've ever used. I wouldn't recommend tossing it around, but I don't see it breaking as easy as an umbrella would. The mount is easily swapped out with a screwdriver - great if you own multiple types of lights (AlienBee and Bowens, for example)I'm using this with a speedlight and a Bowens adapter with great results. The stripbox unfolds in a matter of seconds, from there you attach 2 diffusion covers (the inner one can be left attached even when disassembled and in a big), the outer cover attaches very quickly via velcro and makes a nice tight fit (some softboxes have an issue of a 'drooping' cover). There's also a silver dish that connects to spread the light out across the long length of the box.The size is a bit odd (12x56) but that's the point of a stripbox. I would have liked to see the 12x80 inch offered in the NON ez-pro line, but this is as big as I've found. The light folds down and fits into an included bag (the bag is admittedly low quality, but it works). The item, in the bag, dos take up quite a bit of room (much moreso than a simple umbrella), though not as much as the 60" EZ-ProQuality is high -- fiberglass and metal with a good fabric. However, the quality doesn't seem to match up to the 60" octabox (and I'm not sure why, really). For the price, I was expecting a bit more value. One thing to note is that the eggcrate grid is NOT included and is very costly by itself. I purchased the grid and while it is very fragile (be VERY careful when removing it or it will tear), it does work great. Definitely not up to the quality of the softbox, but a useful accessory if you use grids - check the item page for that for my review.Overall, I do highly recommend it and I'm already eye'ing a 2nd one.4Speedrings do not fit Photogenic LightsUpdate 9 1 2018Well,Much as I hate to say it. These neither Fotodiox nor Amazon can get their stuff together. Of the 4 EZ Pro modifiers I have received, only one of them came with a speedring that will fit my Photogenic Powerlights. I have worked with both Amazon and Fotodiox and each time they have made it right but this is bull. It is not my problem that QC is so poor that Fotodiox shipped speedrings that don't fit the intended light. It is not my problem that Amazon cannot take care of the supposed recall from Fotodiox. I bought these products because I was tired of fighting conventional modifiers to put them up and take them down. This time was no exception. The speedring did not fit my lights. Of the four modifiers, I purchased two speedrings by themselves from Amazon and they fit. Fotodiox sent me two speedrings at no charge that fit. So why if both places have the correct product do I keep getting the wrong or poorly design not fitting speedrings? I would not recommend the EX Pro products to ANYONE!!!This is a love hate relationship review. The concept and operation of the Fotodiox EZ-Pro boxes is a gold mine. HOWEVER, this is the second softbox I have bought from them with the very same problem. The Speedring does not fit my Photogenic Powerlights. I first bough the 60" octo box. The speed ring did not flange up to my strobes. Sent it back as I thought the wrong ring was sent. The second one did not fit either. I ordered the replacement speedring from Amazon and it fit. Contacted Fotodiox and they did reimburse me for the cost of the new speedring. The box is great once it flanges up to the lights. Fotodiox told me this was a known problem when I talked to them. Now I just received my 12 x 56 strip box today. Guess what, the speedring does not fit my lights. So it is a know problem and you still do not fix your existing stock. No excuse. If the product were not so easy to use it would not be worth the trouble, but it is so easy to setup. Now that does me no good if I cannot use the box. I have sent and email to Fotodiox to ask for a replacement speedring. I will update as time goes by. QC would so much help this company.1Super Easy Set Up, Gorgeous Light from this giant OctoboxI wanted one of these to use on location for a pure white back drop. I read reviews on similar (not EZ) octoboxes and many complained about how long those other boxes took to assemble. For on-location use, that wasn't really an option, so I'm thrilled to have found this one. It takes literally less than 5 minutes to set up. You will want a high ceiling room to work in if you want it to get above your subject. The light is gorgeous (again, using either as a backdrop for pure white background or as a main light - which I love!) I'm in a small studio and use with a speedlight like this (Godox Ving V860II-S 2.4G TTL Li-on Battery Camera Flash Speedlite for Sony HVL-F60M, HVL-F43M, HVL-F32M and the corresponding radio controller (Godox X1T-S 2.4G TTL Wireless Flash Trigger Transmitter for Sony DSLR Cameras with MI Shoe e.g. A77II A7RII A7R A58 A99 ILCE6000L - With Pergear Cleaning Kit. I also have a bowen's mount S-type bracket to hold it and it is very easy to use and holds securely (Godox S-type Bracket Bowens Mount Holder for Speedlite Flash Snoot Softbox Honeycomb .Be sure to use on a sturdy light stand. I thought my cheapy light stands were sturdy, but they would begin to bend under the weight of this, so I got some that were a bit stronger. Also be sure to put one of the three legs in front (same direction as the octobox) so it doesn't tip over.It comes with both the inner and outer diffuser, and small metallic thing to spread the light and minimize hot spots, and a nice case that's really easy to get everything back in. Note that this one doesn't come with the grid, and that would need to be purchased separately. It's huge (ok, I measured and it's not quite 60" across, but still huge), lovely light (even from just a speedlight), and so easy to set up/take down. Definitely recommend this one!5Great softbox!Super easy to assemble and disassemble, lightweight, portable, and great for interviews where you want a big light source for your subject.I've used these on a few shoots so far and they are the fastest soft light source I've ever worked with, requires very minimal time and effort, and are easy to adjust and move around.I also like that the mount can be swapped out with just about any common light mount so if I change lighting types these softboxes will still be good.5Buy this softbox.I came upon Fotodiox EZ-Pro and thought it might be a better solution than the 'go to the gym just to put me together' softboxes. I can't tell you how much I love this thing. The other softbox took two people to get it 75% put together. This softbox allows me to put it together so quick and easily that my assistant just sits around while I get setup. I've used this softbox on two professional shoots now and the light quality is amazing. I love big sources of soft light and combined with the Godox AD200, that's exactly what I get. It also comes in a pretty good bag. Nothing but high praise from me. 60" was a little bigger than I expected but it's easily maneuverable. I'll eventually get a smaller size, but this softbox is perfect for me right now.5(60") - Great soft light, easy to assemble and high qualityI've used plenty of lighting solutions over the years and have always been looking for "the next best thing"Starting with Umbrellas (white shoot-thru and black/silver reflective), I was never totally happy with the light. It worked in a pinch, it was inexpensive, but never gave me anything special in terms of lighting. I quickly moved to the Phottix Softlighter II and loved it -- this was a reflective umbrella with a softbox cover on it. It gave a nice, large light source but the downfalls were the setup process (having to attach the cover to each spoke of the light) and the fragile nature of the umbrella. One fall and the umbrella was toast (which didn't take long)Seeing the Fotodiox lights, I was interested. The softbox unfolds in a matter of seconds, from there you attach 2 diffusion covers (the inner one can be left attached even when disassembled and in a big), the outer cover attaches very quickly via velcro and makes a nice tight fit (some softboxes have an issue of a 'drooping' cover)The size is VERY large -- I bought the 60" one (upgrading from a 46" Softlighter) and the difference is noticeable. With that said, no regrets at all. I love this light. The light folds down and fits into an included bag (the bag is admittedly low quality, but it works). The item, in the bag, dos take up quite a bit of room (much moreso than a simple umbrella), this is closer to a golf-bag size.Quality is high -- fiberglass and metal with a good fabric. One thing to note is that the eggcrate grid is NOT included and is very costly by itself. I purchased the grid and while it is very fragile (be VERY careful when removing it or it will tear), it does work great. Definitely not up to the quality of the softbox, but a useful accessory if you use grids - check the item page for that for my review.Overall, highly recommended - already looking into buying a 2nd!5Gives off a color castI have this soft box and the 36 inch soft box. They are ok for general use but for critical work such as beauty or pageant head shots both units give off a pink color cast. Additionally the outer diffuser on both units doesn't quite fit correctly, they are too tight. I get the same color cast with by Bowens Gemini 500R's and when I use it with my Profoto D2's...For location work such as with Seniors they are fine as the color isn't that critical.2Get the Bowens mount for use with speedlights! The five stars is for the 36" octabox with the BOWENS mount. The 36" octabox with the speedlight bracket adapter gets 0 stars because the speedlight adapter simply does not stay attached to the softbox mount. I first tried the Octabox with the speedlight bracket but returned it because the bracket would not stay in the speedring as the rubber around the edge of the speedlight bracket made it too thick to fit into the Octobox mount and it kept on popping out. ( I purchased other softboxes with the same speedlight bracket without the rubber edge. Therefore I am assuming Fotodiox previously sold the version of this speedring which has no rubber edge making it thinner and thus fitting in the mount well, although the Bowens mount is very slightly larger and more secure in any case ) I purchased the Bowens mount version and the Studiohut L-Bracket for Bowens mount for speedlight use. The Bowens speedring stays nice and securely attached to the softbox.Initially, I was hesitant to buy this Octabox because of reviews stating that the light it emits is blue. But I have not found this to be the case. The color temperature from this Octabox is perfect, not blue nor yellowish. It is hard to open and close, but if you follow the instruction and push it against your abdomen to open and close as Fotodiox advises, it only takes a few seconds , it . Alternatively, you can place the softbox on the floor and press down on the center of the cage to open the softbox. To close it, press down in center a bit and then press in that little metal piece that sticks out and clicks when opening the umbrella. I find the first method to be easier.I use a flash diffuser. I see a big difference in the smoothness and eveness of the light using a flash diffuser. It is much more even. This is a great Octabox and well worth the price!Edit: I bought #10 washers from Home Depot for the softbox's speedring mount. The washers I purchased are substantially thicker and slightly bigger than the ones that came with softbox( but still fits in the grooves) and they really hold the speedring securely. 5
