Customer Reviews

Good product, good customer serviceI purchased this tailgate camera to work with an Android radio system. Even though the radio was purchased on Amazon, the rep was apparently Chinese and didn't seem capable of answering simple questions. In reaching out to the camera seller, they did everything possible to help me understand connectivity and how the camera was activated. In turn, they answered many times in minutes. It's a good product and matches the OEM handle perfectly. The only suggestion I would make it that they should include a cable tiedown to be placed on the bottom of the tailgate to keep the cable from binding. (see pic) I picked this one up at Lowe's.5Stop looking, this is it!The finish matches other factory handles for an OEM finish. The price, finish, and function compared to other options make this a great choice. I also purchased a Pyle backup camera kit (rear view mirror and license plate backup camera) on sale for $57. Used the mirror and this product for a complete kit with OEM look and feel for about $160. Paid Best Buy to install everything. The only thing I noticed was the lines are off ever so slightly. You can disable the lines which would solve the problem (my personal preference) but it is not so noticeable that I have made the decision to get rid of the lines entirely. My wife says I should keep them and she doesn t notice an issue. If you have been looking for awhile, I recommend getting this camera for your Tundra.5Perfect fit on my 2008 TundraPerfect fit on my 2008 Tundra, looks like the factory unit. The down side - The wires coming off the back of the camera are too short, thus, the plug for the camera is inside the tailgate and not under the bed. That would make it difficult to remove the tailgate, my solution was to cut the wires and install a second plug in the factory location (under the Bed).4Great view for hooking up trailersThis gives a better angle for hooking up a trailer than the license plate holder cameras. The only thing I wish it had was a plug in the wire so that I could take the tail gate off the truck for when pulling goosenecks but most people aren't doing this anyway with a Tundra. I'll just add my own plug for that probably. I'm using this with a Pioneer NEX4200 stereo and it works great for that.5Looks great and factory. It does have parking assist lines that you can t turn off. This was an easy install, however I do wish it had an extra wire running with it to provide an input to my head unit to switch to camera when in reverse. I had to run a separate wire. No big deal but still would have been easier to have it included and if you didn t need it you just wouldn t use it.It has parking assist lines that you can t turn off so be aware if your head unit also has parking assist lines that you can t turn off you d have two sets of lines.I was able to turn off my head unit lines, so no problem.5Great buy but misleading photoOne photo is misleading. No wireloom is included with the wiring. Also, the AV wire does not have pigtailed power line. The AV line is different from the positive and negative. The negative also does not have the terminal on the end. It s intended to be powered from the reverse light however you can extend the positive line with 16-20 ga wire to power from headunit if desired.Great overall for the price but wireloom and negative terminal pictured are not included and must be purchased separately.I like the image quality and the fit of the handle on the tailgate.4Master Tailgaters Back Cam 2007 TundraI recently ordered this camera for my 07 Tundra. I only have 80K on my truck and have thought about trading it just to get navigation, apple car play and a back up camera. My truck has been paid off for many years and I really love my truck. So instead of trading, I decided to make a few payments and keep her. This camera was purchased along with a Kenwood DNX995s. I really wanted a factory look and this camera/stereo combination nicely fit the bill. Removing the tailgate inside panel and installing was very simple-probably 8 hex head torx screws. The time consuming part was running the video cable and power wires underneath truck and thru firewall in to the cab of the truck. S-video was plug and play right in to the Kenwood head unit. The night vision is more than adequate especially since I upgraded my back up lights. The overall picture quality while not 4K HD is as good if not better than all my other newer vehicles with factory cams. Some people said that their handle was stiff or difficult to open their tail gate but I have not experienced any of that. I am saving my old latch just in case I need parts or have any problems down the road. One gold nugget for all you guys: The Kenwood stereo like many modern head units has adjustable parking grid lines. This tailgate camera comes with preset parking grid lines too. Because the camera is mounted off center in the tailgate release handle the Master Tailgater lines are off as well. In adition, it was also was annoying that they overlapped with the Kenwood lines. I read that some cameras grids could be disabled but could not find anything about the Master Tailgater camera online. So I took a chance and emailed the manufacturer and in a couple of hours I had a response. They instructed me to carefully split the black plasic sheathing just behind the camera with a utilty knife as not to cut any of the tiny wires. Then find the white wire and snip it. *Presto* no crooked back up grid lines anymore! Yayyyy! I now have the Kenwood lines adjusted and you can hardly tell that the camera is slightly off center of the truck. So far I am very happy with this set up and I am really enjoying my new back up camera. It makes hooking up my boat by myself so much easier.5LOVE it, Should have done this sooner.I hesitated to install this for a long time but wish I hadn't. The instructions for install went straight into the garbage where they belong. Yes, you can wire directly into the reverse light, however that light is technically not made to support a camera.I ended up running 4 wires total to the head unit.Wired direct power to the camera so I can turn it on while driving/whenever I want (had 1 extra power on harness), wired the reverse signal from reverse light into the appropriate manufactured wire on the head unit harness, the ground to the head unit harness (had 1 extra ground on harness) and finally the video feed .The tail gate handle was easy to install and quality seems about the same as the OEM, however this is not a direct match to the OEM handle but damn near close to it.Only thing I would like to see different is the manufacturer supplying all 4 wires that are long enough to reach the head unit. I had to provide the wire for the reverse signal and had to extend the power and ground to be able to reach the head unit. In my opinion, this is a great product but missing key information and material.4Excellent product.I gave it all stars for looking and functioning soooooo good. There was only one small minute problem for the picky ones like me. It is easily solved if you still have the original tail gate latch, but the metal retaining clip for the lock cylinder is on the cheap side. The factory clip is made of tougher metal, so I put that one on the new latch. Problem solved. I loved the fact that this latch was complete with new rod holders and as well. I have two trucks and I bought a chrome one and a black one. Glad that I did.5Great price, looks great, and works greati just got the backup camera + tailgate handle installed this weekend. This is actually the 2nd camera tailgate handle that I bought off amazon. The previous one was from a different manufacturer for the same price. When I received that one I was immediately skeptical of the quality. It was entirely plastic and didn't seem all that durable. Sure enough, it broke while trying to use it to open the tailgate while I was still completing the install (The handle was installed and I was working on running the wires). Truthfully I'm glad it broke then, I took it back out and returned that piece of junk. After searching a bit more I decided to give the master tailgaters a shot in the hopes that it would be of higher quality as they claim. When it came, I was disappointed to see that it was also almost entirely plastic - but it did seem to be of a higher quality than the previous handle. I wish they would at least make the lever that actually pushed the mechanism to open the tailgate metal (or reinforce it with some metal brackets). Regardless I pressed forward. Obviously I cannot speak to long term durability (fingers crossed), but so far I'm impressed. It fits in the factory tailgate handle spot just right and looks good. The install was about as easy as you could hope for, and the image quality looks good to me. Installed on a 2011 Tundra Crewmax. The video wire was long enough to run under the body, up into the engine bay through the passenger side firewall grommet and behind the head unit with maybe a foot or 2 to spare. Here are my only complaints (and they are pretty minor honestly):1) The quick disconnect should be about 3 or 4' further down the cable. Then it would be located just past the tailgate so it could actually be used to quick disconnect if you need to remove the tailgate. Its like 6" from the camera so it ends up buried in the tailgate instead.2) I wish the power wires were as long as the video wire. I chose to connect the camera to the same power source as the head unit (that way it would always have power, not just when in reverse which would be the case if you powered it from the reverse lights). You could probably find some other always on power source closer, but since you have to run the video wire anyway... why not just grab it from there where you know what it is. Unfortunately, the power wires are not nearly as long as the video cable, so I had to buy some additional wire to solder and extend them. It worked fine, but would have been nice if I didn't have to.3)Would have been nice if the wire included a 3rd wire to use for the reverse trigger. The foolproof way to get a reverse single to your headunit is to tap into the reverse lights at the back of the vehicle. Some kids include an extra wire along with the video + power for this exact purpose. I actually found a reverse trigger in the cab (light blue wire in the bottom white plug in the passenger kick panel for teh 2nd gen trundras) so I just ran a short wire from there to trigger. But again it would have been since if they would just add one more wire to the bundle to make the install easier.Overall I am really happy so far. As long as nothing breaks in the future - I will consider this one a win. My gripes are minor and all of them were easy enough to overcome. Getting the video wire through the firewall grommet on the other hand... not so easy :)5
