Customer Reviews

Did not work.I've tried everything, even resetting my modem, and router so many times it's crazy. I reread the instructions, even had my wife read them and did the set up. Nothing worked, I even plugged the item right next to the router, same brand, nothing. I went on vacation and came back, redid everything again, I even reset the item twice daily for two weeks, still nothing. Now I'm out of return time, so I'm stuck with it. I read the reviews, and through them I purchased this item, but each home and set up is different and nothing. I had a new modem/router installed by my cable company and still not working. I hate to say it, but this item will not work in my home, all others buyer beware.2Worthless piece of !@#$Needed a wifi extender to extend wireless coverage to other side of our house. I picked up this extender since it has an ethernet port for a direct connection to my wireless router. Even with a direct connection it constantly drops out and has to be reset/powered off (usually at least 2 times a week). I'm very skeptical of wireless extenders in general but figured using one with a direct ethernet connection would produce better results. Wow was I wrong. I also tried using it wirelessly (as it was intended) to connect to my wifi router but it was getting roughly 1-1.5mbps down which is way too slow to stream (even connecting to my wireless router at this distance provided better results). I work in IT as a network administrator for a living so I'm not looking to troubleshoot wireless/network related problems at home. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to use this hunk of dog sh!t.1Have to keep resetting it. JunkRange is ok, install is relatively easy. However..... I have to reset this thing 2-3 times a week because it seems to forget whatever it s set to. Changed my rating to one stars. Gonna be a no for me dawg. Thing barely works. Starts blinking orange instead of staying steady blue. Unplug it and plug it back in and after a brief pause it s fine again. Not really too happy w it so far.1Easy to setup, doesn't lower your WiFi speedI have a netgear ac1200 router and decided to buy a netgear ac1200 wifi extender but was highly disappointed as it cut my internet speed from 50mbps to about 2 or 3mbps! A family member recommended me this product and decided to try it for myself and I was satisfied with the results. The belkin ac1200 range extender kept near or better results in wifi speeds so I was really happy with this better product, now just need to return the last extender5Tips for those thinking about an extender...The Linksys line of gear is notable but they tend not to have readily accessible documentation or videos to show some of the more "tricky" setups. So even a seasoned user setting up one of these can get tripped up because of the lack of information. If your the typical home user and your not going to worry about all the security settings or only install the minimal such as password login protection then it'll probably be a snap but if your a seasoned veteran and you plan to activate all protection schemes then get ready. For instance, if your router is setup to "reject" MAC addresses (which protects intruders from tapping into your internet service) then be sure you load the correct MAC addresses for BOTH channels (2.4 and 5) for the extender to access the router. The MAC address printed on the box label is useless in this case, something Linksys needs to document and explain better. You will need to obtain the correct MAC addresses for both channels by properly accessing your router and extender and applying them to your setup. Confused, call Linksys tech support, hopefully they'll understand your situation correctly the FIRST time around and get right to the point of fixing you up. The first extender I received was actually deemed defective by the Linksys tech (but was perfectly good as noted later) wasting better than a week and shipping fees. On the second round with seasoned veterans on both ends of the phone it took a while to sort out the communications (what the situation was) before realizing incorrect MAC addresses were being applied to the equipment setup because of the lack of documentation and explanation (you see, 1st level tech support doesn't typically get hit with the whole nine yards right off the bat, the first tech kept putting me on hold to confer with his boss about the more sophisticated setup that exceeded his ability). Otherwise even a sophisticated setup would be a snap (with a seasoned veteran or maybe even the home user who should really get in the habit of totally securing their home network). Overall, Linksys extenders are very good to have around making TV's and other equipment not buffer data so much because the signals are weak and getting garbled causing the equipment to request the data be sent again and again. Remember it's a RADIO! Even though you can't hear it imagine trying to listen to an AM radio one dark and stormy night far far away. It's a BUMMER and no different, in a way. Working great so far, get one!5Useless, at least for me.I have found this extender to be useless. When I am able to get my device to connect with it (which is not all the time), the internet works only intermittently or not at all. I will say Belkin tech support is very professional and courteous, but I don't have hours to be on the phone with them to try and resolve my problem. I have already spent several hours with them trying to get it to work. Also, I learned that my Belkin router is only completely reliable when my device is in the same room with the router, or within a few feet in another room where there is no wall blocking the device from the router. I bought the extender because I was told by Belkin that the 5 GHz range is very short and the 2.4 GHz can be severely impeded by any type of wall between the router and device. Caveat emptor!1so if you are looking for a review like that, I recommend you look at the reviews ...I'm not techy, so if you are looking for a review like that, I recommend you look at the reviews from some of these other fine folks. However, my house isn't huge, but the master is catty corner to where we keep the router. When I wanted to watch Netflix in my room, it would buffer....and buffer...and blur and buffer. When I watched it in the family room next to the router, I had no issues. So I went to my trusty friend google, after plenty of research I decided one of these suckers would do the job. Took me maybe 15 minutes to set up, and most of that was after the initial set up. Took me a bit of time to find the perfect outlet to get the best internet speed in my room.Basically set it up in the outlet right next to the router, got it all figured out by following the directions (RTFI). Then moved it to kitchen outlets, checked the speed for each one (doing the speed test in my bedroom) and left it in the one that gave me the best speeds.5Linksys extenderSo far so good this extender works great, easily plugs into a wall outlet and the setup was quick. I live in a townhouse and with the router being on the second floor, sometime getting a signal on the first floor was difficult. This solved the problem immediately. I have Verizon and it worked with no issues. I would get this brand again.5This was a perfect purchase and works greatIn my 1500 square foot condo there was a fire wall between the master bedroom and the living room. Therefore, we couldn't get any service in the master. By using this device in the hallway it carries the signal and we have high speeds everywhere. This was a perfect purchase and works great.5OK, but don't expect it to save the day.We just moved into our new house, and my office was on the other end of the house from the cable modem, so I couldn't connect. This seemed like the perfect thing.First the good part: the setup was very easy. I'm not sure what people are complaining about. As recommended, I connected and configured the device in the same room as the main modem. I then tested it with some benchmarking sites, and it worked great. So far so good. Then I moved it to a point halfway between the modem and my office. This is a point where all my other devices are still able to connect, but this went to flashing yellow, meaning it had failed. To make a long story short, I kept moving it and experimenting with performance, and finally settled on the room *next to the one with the main modem*, where it showed steady yellow, meaning a weak connection. This is a point where everything else gets full bars. This was just close enough to let me connect from my office, but the bandwidth was pretty awful.I used if for a while, then finally bit the bullet and ran a hard line to a separate switch for the other side of the house. Now everything's great. So bottom line: if you re looking something to extend your WiFi into a part of the house you don t use very often, to check email or for basic websurfing, this is an easy-to-use option. On the other hand, if you need good bandwidth for video streaming, etc, you probably want to take the time and set things up right.3
