Solid product with useful adjustments I am very happy with this product. This was more than the ones available at my local Lowe's and home depo, but the child protective features of those products actually prevented me from plugging anything In! I honestly could not get those others to work at all!!In addition to paying somewhat more for a plug that works, the extra money is worthwhile because (1) most of the other plugs that come with a built-in light only give you one plug while this one still allows you two plugs and (2) the light has adjustable settings see you can get it exactly how you want to. In addition to a dimmer, you can choose between clear glass or slotted plastic. I have not had the problem that others experienced with the lights stay on all the time. Even if it did, that would probably not be a dealbreaker as these don't use a lot of electricity, but I suspect those experiencing the problem have not read the directions. You need to use a special setting to indicate whether you are using the clear glass (which is what is shown in the picture) or the slotted plastic. I suspect they have theirs on the wrong setting and that is why the light stays. Perhaps it also makes a difference as to whether the main light source shines down from the ceiling (as it does in my room) or is more ambient-type lighting.I am very happy with this product. 5The included louver shade is perfect for this application I installed 3 of these along our main upstairs hallway. The included louver shade is perfect for this application. It is great being able to walk down the hall after the kids are in bed and not have to turn on the main hallway lights and possibly disturb them. It also is a nice safety feature for the kids when they get up late at night and need to walk down the hallway to use the bathroom. We used to have a single plug-in night light in the hallway, but it always looked a bit tacky and we couldn't adjust the brightness. These are much sleeker and modern looking. We really like the dimmer feature.I am docking one star because the lights are on almost continuously. Although the light sensor does have multiple settings, I cannot get the night light to turn off when our main hallways lights are on at night. Only on a bright sunny day will the night light occasionally shut off completely. This seems to be a common problem seen by other reviewers. 4Install was pretty easy - only thing different from some outlets was ... Install was pretty easy - only thing different from some outlets was the addition of a neutral connection (required for it to work). If you've changed an outlet or a lightswitch, this is a breeze. The light level is easily adjusted by tapping on the light itself (5 different levels of light). I keep it at the brightest, and I've replaced several outlets with these. In case it's not abundantly clear: You can either use the "vents" that slide in and shine the light downward, or you can just use the one that's slid in there already which projects the light everywhere. Easy to change out the light faces, just remove the cover. The ONLY thing I don't like is that the photosensor isn't sensitive enough. It's still too dark in my house even with all the lights on, even with the blinds open in the middle of the day, for it to turn the light off. 45 stars. Looks classy. I would give it 5 stars.Pros- Light looks classy and does not flicker like some others I tried.- Enough light to illuminate the pathway.- Light does not "leak" from the sides.- dusk/dawn detection is good.Cons- The description talks about screwless plate but it does not come with one. I wasn't looking for one since I want all other other wall plates same in the room I used the old one.- louver is crap :). It does not direct the light downwards. It just dims it and light "leaks" from all around it so it does not look neat. I wish they made this nicer as I was looking forward to direct the light downward. 5Light sensor is garbage Nice looking outlet and the brightness selection and optional louver are a nice touch - but the light sensor they use is garbage. Works ok if it's dark or bright, but anything in between and it can't seem to decide whether to turn on or off - so it frequently just turns on and off every few seconds. Also the light gets oddly warm for such a low output LED. I only bought the one unit to test, with plans to replace most of my floor outlets with these if they worked out, but at this point I need to reconsider. I thought Pass & Seymour were supposed to be a quality brand, but this feels like poorly made and overpriced junk. 2Nice little nightlight, but the louver attachment is kind of useless I have these in all of my bathrooms as night lights and so that you don't have to fumble around looking for a switch in the dark. They are also great for bathrooms, because you usually don't have a lot of spare outlets, so having a nightlight plus both receptacles free is very nice!I really like the fact that you can adjust the brightness to 4 different levels or turn the light off completely, just by pressing the light--it is handy to be able to tailor the light level to the size of the room. The brightest setting is bright enough to glare in your eyes if you're adjusted to the dark, but it's directed all out the front so don't expect it to really illuminate a room. Which leads to the one complaint I have:The included louver is kind of worthless. Enough light leaks around the edges that you see a glowing frame more than the light reflected downwards by the louver.Back to the positives: the automatic light sensor works great. There is a slight delay when turning on or off, so the lights don't get hyperactive in response to shadows or other lights being turned on/off. And it seems well tailored to turn on and off at what I think most people would consider an appropriate brightness.Aside from that, the build quality seems totally on par with any other receptacle you'd pick up from a big box store. The finish is a slightly glossy white that matches well with both Legrand and Leviton face plates. 4The unit installs very easily. It s just a replacement of the outlet plate ... The indoor path from my basement family room, to the bedrooms is obviously dark at night. In order to prevent family members from having to turn on, and potentially leaving lights on all the way through the house I was looking for a night light solution. I bought three different products including the one listed here. I m posting the same review in each product for simplicity.First, the SnapPower Guidelight - Outlet Coverplate with LED Night Lights, Duplex. This was the product I had the most hope for, and it was the most disappointing for the purpose I needed it for. The unit installs very easily. It s just a replacement of the outlet plate cover and of the three products, it was the easiest to install. My problems, which may be only pertinent to my needs and use of the light are twofold. First, the amount of light is not really adequate. If it the only light you are relying on to navigate a dark hallway or other space, it s not bright enough. I would use it in a bedroom though, perhaps for a child that wanted some light. The second problem was the light sensor is not sensitive enough. The light stayed on almost all the time, unless it was very bright (think full sunlight) in the room. This is not a disaster as the LED lights are very energy efficient, but just something that I think could be improved.Second, the Legrand-Pass & Seymour NTL885TRWCC6 Nightlight with Two 15 AMP Outlets with Cover. This unit took more effort to install than the SnapPower as it was an outlet swap-out. It also required a new plate cover, the same kind that covers a GFIC outlet works perfectly, but is something else that must be purchased. The Legrand is brighter than the SnapPower light and was very adequate for lighting the dark hallway. It however suffered the same short coming in that the light sensor was not sensitive enough and the light stays on most all day long. It is not installed in a dark, long hallway either and I know about, and did adjust the sensitivity. It was just not adequate from keeping the light on most of the day.Third, the Eaton TR7735W 3-Wire Receptacle Combo Nightlight with Tamper Resistant 2-Pole. Installation was similar to the Legrand-Pass unit. It did however require that both the neutrals be twisted together and a short pigtail wired be used to connect to the single neutral post on the outlet. Add one wire nut, and one very short piece of 14-gauge wire to installation. This unit also required a new plate cover, the same as used to cover a GFIC outlet. It also replaces one outlet with a nightlight, so there is a trade-off. For my use, this was not an issue as the only thing that ever gets plugged into the hall outlets is a vacuum. As for function, the Eaton outperformed the other two in both brightness (which is adjustable) and light sensitivity. It turns the light on at a ambient light level that is just when you need it to come on. It is off during the day, on when you need it. I ve be buying more of these units to light the path all the way to the bedrooms in my home.In rating these, I didn t consider the ease of installation as they were all fairly easy for me, but if you re not comfortable changing out an electrical outlet either hire a pro, or go with the SnapPower Guidelight. Otherwise, opt for the Eaton, unless giving up an outlet is not an option in which case the Legrad-Pass is the best solution. In any case, any of the three are superior to a nightlight sticking out of the wall and I would recommend any one of them. 4The bad and the good The bad:* Turn on the nightlight, and you see "Legrand" logo* outlet face is "stamped" with Legrand logo. It's already collected some dust, which can't be cleaned or scratched out, making the logo more contrasting.* The nightlight's lowest setting is not low enough for my taste.* Rather deep at 1.5 inches. It WILL fit in a 2.5" work box, but when I ran a 1500watt space heater, the outlet was pretty warm after 30 minutes. Old outlet was smaller, not like that. For such use, replace the work box also. The good:* The screw connections are sturdy. Supports J hooking, and wire from behind (screw clamp).* It has 2 outlets. (Leviton nightlights only have 1 socket, currently, unless you go with the GFCI model)I bought this with other Legrand devices, not knowing about the tacky product branding. Now that I've seen it, I won't buy any more such products. 3Fantastic nightlight outlet! I extremely happy with these outlets! I purchased about two dozen for my home and wired them myself. Very easy installation, and the outlets work like a dream. Build quality is very high and the nightlight function puts out an amazing amount of light, but is also adjustable in three varying luminosities (four if you include off) in case you want to dim it, or turn it off.The best part is that the outlet itself works very well. Always takes a plug easily and holds it exceptionally well.My only complaint is that if you wire this outlet to a switch, and break the side hot tab, the nightlight function no longer works. I won t take stars off for that, but it s been a disappointment on a few outlets. 5A step above other LED outlets This outlet works like any other single gang outlet available at a big box hardware store. The plus is the LED light is adjustable to 3 settings from low to high by simply pressing the light to cycle through the settings. Another feature is the optional slide in plastic louver to redirect light downward that comes in handy when the outlet is located in a hallway. It's tamper resistant but is upgraded to where you don't see the clear protective flappers in the receptacles. I called Legrand's customer support to question the tamper resistant claim and they told me they switched to a black plastic material to improve aestetics. This makes it hard to identify but it is fully tamper resistant. Another feature is the fact I couldn't find another manufacturer offering a single gang LED outlet with two receptacles. All others had one receptacle with the light occupying the other receptacle. The only alternative before finding this was a GFCI receptacle that I did not want. The quality is on par with other top quality brands I've purchased and I'm glad I bought it. 5
