Customer Reviews

What a waste of time and money this product is and so ... What a waste of time and money this product is and so surprising coming from one Kohler! I bought this product after reading the other reviews that said it would last a couple of months at most before the poor design and lack of seal would cause the light on the seat to malfunction and go out permanently. They were right!I was betting on Kohler's reputation for quality and the fact that everything else in my bathrooms comes from Kohler. They really missed the boat on this relatively inexpensive product which really shocked me. Trust me when I say, if you buy this Kohler product you are wasting your money! Time for Kohler to step up, correct this problem and be more vigilant about products before bringing them to market. 1Warning - Not Waterproof I was hesitant to purchase this product when I read some of the reviews. I love this idea of the nightlight and I bought one to try and test before doing the rest of my toilets.I decided to install one in my sons bathroom first knowing he is very young and has a tendency to miss in the middle of the night. Sure enough, in exactly 3 months the light did not come back on as others had reported in reviews here.I removed the toilet seat and the major defect with the current design is there is no way to keep water from entering the battery compartment on the back of the seat (where accidents are bound to happen). Also when cleaning you have to be extremely careful. The circuit board that houses the LEDs is inside with the batteries with no barrier to stop moisture intruding. This is an absolute bone head design flaw and the engineers and executives at Kohler should be fixing this immediately! When I called Kohler they offered to replace the LED battery compartment but with the same exact part and warned me that the toilet seat is not waterproof and not to spray any cleaners directly on the seat being careful not to get water or cleaners on it again. They have had numbers us complaints from other customers about the same thing. What???CRAZY!!!! Why would anyone make a toilet seat that can't get wet?????For less than 5 cents a seat they could easily make a rubber gasket that goes around the crack of the battery compartment to prevent this from happening. Kohler should stop production on this until they can send a gasket to all existing customers if they care. Until I see the executives take action I'm giving this one star and save your money until Kohler can design an LED that lives up to their name. This is absolute garbage.I have attached photos so you can see the oxidization damage that occurred in just 3 months!Kohler - I hope you see this and do the right thing! I feel like I flushed $75 down the toilet....literally. 1Why not? Life is short! Ok. It is after all a toilet seat that costs more than many other perfectly good options...But, if you get up in the middle of the night and you have a little disposible income to spend on a small luxury, then I highly recommend this seat. The light is not overpowering but readily seen when in full dark. Easy to set the timer and the clever attaching mechanism lets you change batteries easily. A set of batts lasted us 8 months. It's a set and forget device. Pick the time you want the light to come on by pressing on and it will do so every night at the same time. The blue light stays on for 7 hours I believe. I purchased this seat to fit a Toto Drake and the fit is perfect. 5Big Blue Yeah this thing is pretty cool. The light is bright enough that you may have to shut the door to the bedroom, even when the lid is closed, and I have not had to change the batteries in this lid for at least six months, probably more. The timer setting was not immediately easy or understandable, based on the directions, but basically I turned the light/timer on when we were going to bed one night and then it generally has gone out on its own by the time we wake up in the morning. You can turn the light off and on manually, but that is not necessarily practical. Probably there is greater insight in the other reviews. The seat is sturdy, the no-slam feature is cool, and it also unclips with a design I'd not seen before which makes it easy to remove for cleaning. 5Don t hesitate to buy We have been using these seats for around a week now one in each of our bathrooms. So far they are great! No more stumbling around or turning a light on in the middle of the night and getting blinded. We were looking into the lights that hang on the side of the bowl but just did not like the cumbersome box hanging there. These are far more aesthetically pleasing. The seat is contoured so if you are used to a flat seat these take some getting used to but are very comfortable. The slow close feature is awesome! It also slow opens so for us seat lifters it s quiet up and down so your partner does not wake up to a toilet seat being dropped in the middle of the night. Wish they made an RV size as well 5Needs LOTS of Improvement. I had high hopes, but came back after 2 years and took away a star. Would like it MUCH better if it were photosensitive and just came on automagically if it's dark. I do NOT like the 7-hour timer: WTF, y'all, it's dark outside for longer than seven hours! And you have no control on setting an exact time - you have to "reset" it AT the time you want it to come on every day?? No control at all. M'kay. It feels cheaply made - it's a thinner plastic. Also do not like the 'quick release' hinge system as it just seems doomed for failure there. If you are a heavy person: this will NOT work for you unless you sit very still on the potty; if you move around, you WILL rip this thing off the hinges. I do not expect it to last long and will be shocked if it does. It's not terrible, but I am disappointed. - 2 years later, still disappointed AND the light doesn't work at all now. The batteries got to where they barely lasted a month, then it just quit lighting up at all. Also see the review about it NOT Being WATERPROOF. Liquid gets INSIDE the light mechanism. Pretty sure that's a death knell you hear.If they improve it, I might try it again. Wanted two - one for each bathroom, but I'm glad we only went for one. Save your $$ and buy a cheap light that goes under the rim. 2 years after purchase I see on their website that Kohler has extended the timer to a whole 10 hours, but you still have no real control over setting it. Still no photocell. 1Best toilet seat ever. I must say the blue light is pretty cool, people comment when they come over. Beyond that, the best feature of this product from my standpoint is the easily removable seat to clean underneath the connection area on the posterior aspect where urine can collect. Additionally, there is firm rubber where the seat meets the porcelain so the seat never slides laterally when even the heaviest people sit on it. Soft close means its never slammed shut and its never cold to sit on. Never expected to review a toilet seat, but I have discovered this one is one of life's little luxuries. 5this is my go-to toilet seat now... I added a bidet to my toilet a year plus ago at my old house, bought a new heavy WOOD toilet seat and it broke within a week. Figured I'd go with Kohler, and since we have a pupper who treats the toilet like his water bowl, wanted something that would soft close. The night light is a bonus, and it lasts a good while, though sometimes you have to push the button in back to activate it.Even with a bidet and being adjacent to the shower, I've had no issues with the back getting wet... but then again, I don't spray everything with water as that's seldom good for your flooring. I love the easy release mechanism for cleaning (also good for when you want to change the batteries)Batteries last pretty well and the blue light works well with the seat up or down. Most of all it's a strong seat - with the bidet attachment, the back is lifted up, so there's extra pressure on the seat, I am no small boy... and it takes my 300lb weight without issue where wood seats crack and give up.So a year later and a new house later and we not only take the old seat with us, we by a new one for the second bathroom! :) 5Ok but not great for the price. Not a fan of the quick release hinges. They allow the seat to shift too much although they do make for easier cleaning. The nightlight comes on for 7 hours which doesn't always work out as far as the timing. It is often still dark when I get up on the morning and the nightlight has already shut itself off. It has also not come on a few nights and wouldn't come on with the switch and I had to remove and reinstall the batteries to get it to reset itself. Although my toilet is also a Kohler, it is an older color and the ice gray doesn't really match the color very well. The seat is made of plastic and works ok but wasn't inexpensive and isn't a great value in my opinion. 3(Appears broken) Very disappointed I am past my return window Unfortunately toilet seat arrived with the light cracked as well as of of the clips that covers the back screw. Within about 6 weeks, of very minimal use, the lid came off. Neither me nor my husband can figure out how to get it back on. (Appears broken) Very disappointed I am past my return window. The seat itself is really not that nice or comfortable. I really wish I would have purchased the Bemis Brand soft close seat from lowes instead of this that was $30 in biscuit color. (Close enough to Almond in my opinion) More comfortable and affordable. 1
