This is a BEAST!!! I was recently suckered into making a pair of cornhole game boxes for my lady friend. The requirements of the game call for a 6" hole to be located exactly 9" down and 12" over from one end of the 2' by 4' box.The bit doesn't come with the necessary mandrel but that wasn't a problem for me as I just used the mandrel I had earlier purchased for another hole saw. Those mandrels hold a small drill bit in the center to use as a guide for hole placement. The sheer size and bulk of the hole saw covered any direct view of the penciled in mark I'd made on my panel. It took a bit of work to get the tip of that small drill bit centered on the hole. I had coupled the hole saw to a rather hefty DeWalt corded hammer drill and touched the trigger. Even though I had what I thought was control of the drill using both handles, the drill took an immediate hop out of the hole the second the larger outside cutting surface started to bite in. I couldn't stop it. I ended up with a hole not where I wanted it to be.Thinking about my mistakes, here's what I did to prevent a repeat: 1) I clamped down the workpiece. 2) I predrilled a small 1/4" hole exactly where I wanted the center of the bigger hole to be. This allowed me to see exactly where I was drilling. 3) I located the resulting hole by feel without engaging the teeth of the hole saw and eased it down. 4) Making sure I was higher than the work piece so I could use my weight to control the drill, I EASED the teeth of the saw down into the workpiece with an absolute death grip on the drill. SUCCESS!!!This will do the job but it's not for the wimpy. I don't recommend using a cordless drill and if your drill has a second handle to control torque, you had better plan on using it. 4Not quite 1 5/8" I measured this using two measures and it seems to be a hair narrower than 1 5/8". Therefore, the PVC pipe would not fit in the hole. Yes, I measured before using the item yet decided that I'd try it anyway just in case I measured improperly. Thankfully I used a test board and did not ruin the main item. 3Best value for a hole saw, hands down. Great hole saw for the price. Okay, it's not as nice/precise as some other hole saws I own, but it's also 1/3 of the price. And for the price, you can't go wrong buying this hole saw. I bought this saw with the intent of cutting 4 holes in 3/16 steel. I wasn't sure the saw would be up to the task. I'm pleased to say, not only did it cut the 4 holes I needed, but it's still got a lot of life left! I thought it would be down to nubs or nearly wasted, but even cutting through thick steel it's barely dulled. I'd say the teeth are probably 95% actually. That's pretty impressive for a $10 hole saw. 5This is not a 4 inch hole saw! This product states that it is a 4 inch Bi-Metal Hole Saw but be aware that it is not 4 inches. It is a 102mm which comes out to 3 15/16 inches not a lot of difference unless you need a 4 inch hole. With this you will have to do additional work with a file to get the four inches. 1Heavy Duty Excellent Quality Hole Saw Got this as a close out at an Amazon vendor for only $1 plus about $5 shipping, and could not be happier. This is a very heavy duty excellent quality hole saw. What I liked most about this hole saw is the multiple ways I could attach it to a drive system. The hole saw has what looks like a 3/8" pipe thread hole in the center of the base. It also has two sets of 1/4" holes (most hole saws only have one set) in the base in a cross (+) configuration with the center 3/8" pipe thread hole in the center of the cross. This was important for me, because I used this hole saw in a unique way. I used the 1/4" holes to run 2 threaded bolts through a PVC coupling I created and glued together, and secured the hole saw to the pvc coupling with lock washers and nuts. Then I attached multiple 10' lengths of 3/4" PVC pipe to this coupling as a snake to clean out roots that had accumulated in some of my underground 3" drain pipes. I had to oversize the drive end of the system to 1" pvc and add a galvanized hex nut pipe fitting for extra strength and durability (before I was breaking off the 3/4" pvc connectors at the drive end), and powered the whole assembly with a 1/2" pneumatic impact driver. In the final configuration, I was able to extend the assembly to a total length of 50' using 5 sections of 3/4" pvc pipe to clean out all the tree roots along the entire length of the drain. My situation was unique, and this hole saw worked perfect for it. But I believe that this hole saw would also work excellent for any traditional hole drilling needs. You just have to make sure you can attach it to your drive system. 5... my existing hole saw kit was over used and dull. The Irwin one is a fine replacement and ... I needed a specific size for a project and the one in my existing hole saw kit was over used and dull. The Irwin one is a fine replacement and worked great for the project. Make sure you have the correct hole saw kit connectors for this tere are a couple of standards out there. 5Even used a 3/8 battery operated drill with adapter and had awesome results :-) Five stars for toughness in this price range. Use this to cut holes in steel Hood of a vehicle. After doing that these cut the hole very nicely. Not even used on wood yet but I have no fear of issues. Even used a battery operated 3/8 drill with adapter on the steel and had awesome results :-) 5Sharp and tough I bought this to drill a 2" hole in a chrome bumper for mounting a trailer plug. I was fully expecting a lot of effort, a lot of heat generation, and a lot of constant lubrication. I also was not really expecting the hole saw to survive. I was wrong on all counts. The teeth on this thing tore right through the chrome and started making nice metal chips immediately. Within 30 seconds it effortlessly cut all the way through leaving a nice hole with fairly smooth edges. The teeth still look like new. I used a sticky thread cutting oil, but I'm sure just about any oil would have worked as well. 5Right size for led shop lights and dust collector fittings Nice quality 4" hole saw I bought to install a couple dozen led shop lights in drywall ceiling. I've been using it in my drill press to cut out holes in 3/4 plywood for my dust collector build. 4" is the standard size for most dust collector fittings. Arbor removes nicely and has a quality build. Glad I bought it. 5Doesn't work on sheet metal as advertised Description stated good for sheet metal. Apparently not. One hole drilled and the teeth are gone. Pretty expensive for one use. Hope I can get a refund. 1
