great light, iffy on the voltage detectionThe light is nice and bright. Great form factor, and the clip is surprisingly useful when working on something. I was using it to fix an electrical box in a basement the other day, and the clip was invaluable for keeping the light where it needed to be.As for the voltage detection feature, maybe I'm doing it wrong, but it seems to light up when I press it to basically any surface. On top of that, the instructions are pretty vague. My guess is that the light is designed for professional electricians, whereas I'm an amateur know-enough-to-be-dangeours type. The flashlight has done it's job very well for me, and I'm sure I'll figure out the voltage light aspect at some point. 3I trust it.I bought Fluke because Fluke. Nice that it's silent for troubleshooting an electrical problem in the middle of a quiet conference room, the projector not turning on for example. Just one battery and small.4 stars because the battery cover is the clip, and it's a weak snap fit. Had to tape it in place with electrician's tape. 4An excellent non-contact voltage testerWhat sets the Fluke LVD2 apart from other non-contact voltage sensors is the positive feedback and the distance sensor. I insisted on a tool that would let me know that it is functioning while in use in addition to the normal `check live circuit'. The flashlight provides feedback that the Fluke has enough battery power and functioning rather than guessing in an attic that the voltage sensor is still working after the initial check. The Fluke's Pink to Blue function to note that you are close with pink and then you are on the hot wire when blue is a GREAT feature! Along with another feedback option, in my experience the `close' sensor worked so well that it found the single hot wire in a bunch of 4 `black' wires. Very happy with the unit and I feel very safe using it. My other `beeping' units are now in the "only if I really need it" pile. One small note, it does not beep which would be a nice add but I give it 5 stars anyway. 5The light is great for tight places and spotting hard to see wire ...The light is great for tight places and spotting hard to see wire breaks. The sensor has two colors for near and "right on the spot". I've used this meter to quickly check machines with open wires to get to the problem. The sensor will operate in a compact compartment too because of its sensitivity. Electricians will like this because it glows blue when an outlet is live without taking a panel off or plugging in anything. Helps to determine how many outlets are on a blown GFI quickly. Novices can use it to "stay safe": Don't touch live wires. 5Absolutely Reliable PerformerOutstanding and stable performer. Fluke will replace any defective product even if it's beyond the 2-year warranty period. This is my second unit (misplaced the first one after 8 years) and I like the brighter indicator lamps and improved flashlight. I've read objections to its limitation as a flashlight in daylight and find those comments laughable. Its switch works well without failure. This is a reliable safety tool and deserves a place in your work shirt pocket. Treat it with respect and it will serve you well. 5Necessity for electricians. It s small enough that I keep it in my pocket at all times. I like the flashlight. It lights up when it detects electricity but it doesn t make any sounds. I would prefer for it to make a sound so there s no question that electricity is present but other than that, it s the best one I have ever owned. Definitely buy this if you re an electrician! 5Only lights on one side of it, Have to rotate to see if voltage is present.I had other of Fluke Volt Lights and this Fluke LVD2 sucks, The plastic tip is square and only barely lights up on one side of the square tip, The other 3 sides don't light up! I don't understand why Fluke didn't get peoples opinion of it before building it and selling it.The WHOLE tip SHOULD of light up bright on all sides, not a dinky red light. Maybe it should also beep.Right now when you turn it on the tip lights up light a flashlight so you can see, which is nice.Right now its better as a flashlight then a volt detector.Come on Fluke you can do better then this! 1while I love this thingwhile I love this thing, I will admit it takes a bit of getting used to, and there are times I go back to my old hot stick, this pen makes no noise, lights up blue when the sensor is within several inches of the source, and changes to red when at the source, so keep the wire you're checking well isolated from other electrical sources. it is also very sensitive, i'm still getting used to it after a month, it's about as reliable as any other hot stick, but it looks pro, and the LED flashlight is nice and bright 5Life saver. This is my 3rd unit in about 10 years. The smaller size is worth the extra cost as it fits comfortably in my shirt pocket and can carry it as I'm working. I always drop them and they still work. I usually end up leaving them at a jobsite. Good solid unit. Would buy another if I need it. 5Excellent Little DetectorI've never used any other voltage detectors, so have nothing to compare itto, but it does exactly what the description says, from a distance of several inchesaway from an electrical source (e.g. a few inches away from an outlet) it glows blue, and as you get very close it turns red, so it appears to be the best of both types (combining low and high sensitivity, though only for the voltage range specified of course), without requiring any adjustments. The only drawback is as several people have mentioned: the light is always on, which uses the battery up faster, but doesn't interfere at all with the voltage detection functionality (taking off one star only because of that). It may not have a self-test feature, and only has a visual indicator (no beeping), but I don't find any use for those in actual practice, you always need to check against a live source before using it on the source in question anyway. 4
