Complete Crap!This CD drive works maybe 5% of the time. I have NOT successfully gone through one installation without an error. Every time I try to watch a movie, or install a game, this drive will begin then eject the disk after a few minutes. Even with a flawless, brand new disc, this drive still will not make it through to the end of a movie or software installation without several ejections. Super aggravating!! I ended up buying a name brand (LG) cd drive for only $5 more than this piece of generic crap. The new drive works perfectly even when using the same exact discs. Save yourself the time and trouble and order a name brand!!1Older Technology for PC DVD player.i must update my review. even with a no return policy, the company made a very fair offer on the unit which was did not have the spec ability for the use of this product. TV vs. PC use to watch DVD movies. i was impressed with the response time with the issue of only working on older microsoft operating systems. windows 98 & Vista. i was able to pass this product onto another disabled veteran who still uses Vista as a gift in this sellers name. win win all around. please read spec data to be sure this product can be used as you desire.5Worked fine, but I received a driver disc for it ...Worked fine, but I received a driver disc for it that had Chinese and English instructions and after I used to load the External USB DVD/CD, the player that was downloaded to my laptop and all sort of extra programs that I did not want were all in Chinese. I couldn't use the programs or uninstall them because I don't read or speak Chinese. I was able to send the device back to the company with no cost to me and a full refund, but they did not help me troubleshoot in any way, how to remove all those programs from my device. I had to erase my laptop back to factory settings and start over. THIS PRODUCT IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE.Original review: Usable as a stop gap only. I've had my drive for 3 days. The first day, I plugged it in and it worked great. I was so happy. Imagine my distress when it stopped working the very next day! I bought it to replace the DVD drive in my laptop, but I now realize that this external drive is just a stop gap until I can afford something better. I had to manually move the carriage in order to get the drive to spin again, but even if this is in the right place, the drive only seems to spin when my wifi is on. This both bothers and annoys me. I don't keep my wifi enabled if I am not using it. Sounds crazy, right? That a DVD drive needs wifi enabled?? So today when I booted the drive up, I tried an experiment: I disabled wifi while my game was loading off the CD. You'll never guess what happened. The drive completely stopped spinning, my game stopped booting up, and my laptop could not recognize there was a disk in the drive. Opened it up, moved the carriage, enabled wifi, and presto! it worked again. So I have to get my game completely loaded and THEN I can disable wifi. But it begs the question, WHY would a DVD drive need internet? I don't know, but I plan to replace this piece of junk ASAP. Bottom line, if you need a cheap external DVD drive, this will fill your needs, but remember, the cheap comes out expensive!1Rip-offSo my drive seemed to work one time, but in reality it did nothing, it was unable to write to a disk, and it could not read a disk that was readable everywhere else. After trying different blank media, as well as disks with data, I found it did not really work at all, it id's all disks as blank.So I happen to know a bit about these drive cases, it is just an adapter and case to hold a laptop drive... So I want to check to see that it is plugged into the drive correctly, when I discover the problem!! The case is a brand-new run of the mill $5 adapter case. The drive, on the other hand, is an old dirty drive pulled from a laptop that was manufactured in March of 2008.1Not Plug and Play, Would not buy againI bought this external CD DVD RW Burner based on the reviews available at the time. When I received it, I was happy with the size of the burner. Perfect to fit on my computer desk. I plugged in both plugs as instructed and the green light came on.That was the only good news. I tried everything including getting some Tech Support from AOL and was not able to get it to work. I then went back to Amazon to post a question and read the reviews since I first purchased it. There were so many bad reviews that I never would have purchased it. I did post a couple of questions and did get some advise, but the overwhelming advise I got was to send it back which is what I intend to do. Apparently this unit uses older technology that will not work with the majority of computers out there, including mine. I cannot recommend this product to anyone.1Never worked with my MacBook Air and iMacWe got this to play DVDs on our MacBook Air and iMac, but didn't have any luck with it. It would sometimes recognize that a DVD was in it, but it was never able to play for more than a few seconds. I tried using both connections on the USB cable (it has two, presumably for more power if you are not getting enough with the main plug). I could see I/O errors in the console. Anyway, it never worked.I bought Aluminum External USB DVD+RW,-RW Super Drive for Apple--MacBook Air, Pro, iMac, Mini -- it was a bit more expensive but it has worked flawlessly.1WORST WASTE OF MONEYHorrible!!!! As others have likely done, get one with a name brand for like $6-7 dollars more.1Wrong Product I ordered the wrong product here, and am not able to make a good review; however, the packaging was great and it seemed like a good product. I have it at home trying to figure what I will ever use it for. Someone may need it one day, and I will be able to provide it for them. I believe it is a good product, from what I can tell anyway.
