Customer Reviews

Great for deiesel mechanic Great product for inspecting semi tractor and trailersLost my forst one and order a new one to eeplace it and just like the first one its an awesome little light it took some finese to install the battery because the pins head was cojed but after some gentle thuggibg it whent in and works great !!!!A rather buy this light than any otger in the market right now spacially for any vehicle or heavy equipment tech !!!I wish there was add on clip so i can wear it around my neck!!! Time for diy 5Maybe mine was a bad one........Was super excited about this flashlight... As a professional tech, lighting is important, and with good batteries getting stronger, and LED/COB lights getting less expensive, this was set to be a fantastic pen light.....It was a 4 day nightmare......Maybe it was old stock or something... I put it together (plastic shreds everywhere inside the light... poor QC?), charged it 12 hours, unplugged it, turned it on... couldn't see the light on the wall 3 ft away with a lamp on the other side of the room turned on.... looked like that battery was all but dead....As a mechanical minded guy I took it back apart to see if it was something simple I could fix... there are little metal arms that contact the metal case of it to aid in operation and charging... they looked tarnished or something, so I took a pencil, and cleaned them with the eraser, slightly bent them for better contact with metal case... recharged 12 hours, turned on... slightly better... maybe I'm on the right path...took it back apart, checked to make sure it all looked right... looked good to me... was all set to return it... had an idea... The fact that the battery had 6 prongs made me think there was some form of computing going on in it... battery charging control maybe, I dunno, I didn't research it... had a crazy idea... turned it on, left it on for 12 hours until it was just barely glowing lit... Plugged it back in, charged for 12 hours, turned it on... MUCH better... left it on for another 12 hours, plugged it back in for 12 hours and now it's probably as bright as it should be... right about what I expected it to be... maybe mine was just a bad one, but this was 4 days of experimenting, bleeding (those metal prongs are sharp, lol), cursing, and frustration...Buyer beware...On a good note...Now this flashlight is very nice, strong light, good battery life, looks good, button is easy to push (double edged sword that one)... cool idea for charging (although it is a proprietary charger, if it sucks I'll update my review)...Sadly, the biggest pro about this what the unboxing experience... I'm usually a Streamlight guy (GREAT flashlights), but this thing was boxed SO nice... awesome little box, firm, closed cell foam insert to hold everything very nicely, from the moment I opened the package until I turned it on-ish (except the battery install) I smiled like a dork... A+++ packagingIf it came the way it is now it would get a 4 to 5 star review, but the fact it took a LOT of work to make this $30 flashlight usable in any form really left a bad taste in my mouth...2Great compact flashlightWhere to start, this flashlight is the bomb!!! Very easy to fit in your front pocket. It s slender size makes it so easy to look into small spaces. If you re looking to light up the backyard looking for an intruder, this is NOT the flashlight for you! You would be better off with something bigger and more weapon-like . If you ve dropped something behind the couch, in the engine of your car or you just want to check the steaks on the grill after dark, this is going to do the job. Love the compact size and light weight features. Also like that it Is rechargeable. Don t know how we ever lived without it.5Good light, not quite designed for heavy useI work as a master technician at nissan, and I use this light all day, every day. Love it so much I bought extras. Coast does have a full warranty on them which I have the advantage of the snap on truck being a coast dealer so I just warranty them through there... Which is good because I've broken 2. They re not the most durable.the neck is the failure point. But like any other tool good work practices can prevent failures. Be gentle when charging and removing from the charger, and you will not have a problem. Very bright light for the size and with regular use I charge mine every few weeks.4Definitely not a technician s friendAs an auto tech at a dealership I use my flashlights all day long. I really don t understand what all the hype is with this particular one. Granted, it is very narrow and it does put out a beam that has no hotspots. But if you re trying to light up an engine compartment outside so that you can see something farther down like motor mounts or something behind an intake for example this thing is completely useless. It truly puts out less than 30 lm exactly what it says it puts out. Which, is virtually nothing. Now, in the shop it works OK it s nothing to brag about but it does work OK. I ve been trying to use it for the past two weeks after using a stream light stylus pro for the past two years. And I can say, for the price this thing is very disappointing. The only reason I m giving it three stars is because it is rechargeable and it is small. And, that in and of itself is a benefit. But if you re looking for something that truly lights up an area well, I m not talking blindingly bright I m just talking about lighting up an area well whether you re indoors or out, just keep moving along because this thing is $40 down the toilet.3I am sad to say that I was only able to use ...I purchased this item with the intent of using it daily at work. The light itself is magnificent. However, upon connecting the light for its first charge, i noticed it wouldn't charge. I contacted the seller and they were quick to ship me out a new one. I have had the second one for a couple months and it too has now stopped charging. I don't know if it is the a manufacture defect. I unfortunately cannot return/ exchange it. I am also not able to purchase just a charger for it. I am sad to say that I was only able to use this flashlight for the life of the battery that it came with.3Mechanics Non-bias reviewI got my A9R and opened it and was immediately impressed with the packaging and slimness of A9R pen light. But don t let the size fool you. It s brighter than it s bigger brother the Coast G20. In the pics you can see the light is brighter, bigger, and crisper than the coast G20. You can see they are lined up at the same distance.I read the battery installation issues in other reviews.... Either they got a bad one or simply don t know how to be careful when threading in plastic on metal threads. Just make sure the 6pin connected is plugged in properly BEFORE you install the battery and light head. I think people are sliding in the battery THEN threading in the light head. Which will obviously take a stroke of miracle to make that work without damaging the pins. If you re a mechanic (I m a commercial refrigeration tech) you ll have no problem understanding this process when you see it.I ve heard people say the pin contacts get corroded after time. This is avoidable by putting a THIN layer of thread sealant on the light head threads. This should seal it, preventing moisture from getting into the pin connection.I went through almost every pen light Amazon had to offer to finally find this gem. I tried the Trunite brand, even the titanium ones, the stream light brand, etc.... They all have one thing I hate... the different modes.... that you have to click through to get to the brightest setting. Mechanics usually want a tool that s simple and works. We don t need SOS, strobe, low, med, high. And we sure as heck don t want to have to spend the precious time clicking through them all.The $36 price tag is COMPLETELY worth it, in comparison to the other lights. If this holds up even a month, I ll be buying more for friends and co-workers.I hope this helps because I really think that a lot of people giving negative reviews for the battery install are usually the people that don t understand how batteries work in the first place. Or which end goes where.Thx for reading.5Great light; weak clipI love everything about the light. My one and only concern is the clip.I wear this light and a pen in either a breast pocket or a shoulder pocket, depending on my shirt that day. The clip is made of metal that's too thin/light, and has bent enough that essentially only gravity holds it in my pocket now.Since the clip is removable (and therefore replaceable), and I very much like everything else about the light, I've given five stars, but I hope the manufacturer will consider a more sturdy clip in the future.June 2019 edit: Still love this light. When I started looking for a replacement clip, and started looking at the clip in detail, I got out my Gerber multitool and squeezed it a bit. We'll see if it hold, but it looks like it will. I don't know how I managed to bend it loose in the first place.5Fantastic in every way. Can't beat it.I am a mechanic and having a GOOD light is a must. This slim, easy to handle light is the best I've ever had. Super bright light. It securely clips it in my shirt pocket so it's easy to get to and I don't loose it. A big plus is that it is rechargeable. As much as I use a light I go through a lot of batteries. This little guy charges without a hitch. Amazing, just push the end of it into the charger. There are no Holes to push a charging cord into that would get dirt and grease filled. I plug it in at night and by morning it is ready to go. Seems durable so far. I have dropped it from standing height without a scratch or dent, but nothing more than that.5I have been searching for the best pen light ... This is it.I have been using this light daily for 1 year and have zero negative things to say about it. This light is exactly what I was looking for. I use a flashlight multiple times daily at work and like to have something small that I can keep in my front pocket. Had bought the Streamlight Stylus Penlight an was very happy with it, but needed something brighter (11 lumens). This A9R has 54 lumens and it really makes the difference. It is a little pricey but as soon as you open you see why. All metal and beam lens has a great spot like focus. Tip has plastic threads and a red ring (That illuminates when pen is on), but this is needed to separate -/+ when charging. Regardless after I initially installed the battery I have never needed to unscrew it. Charger is USB and can be used in car, computer, or wall plug.Has a good feel and weight and the clip is perfect and strong for the front shirt pocket. My use is short inspections with light on for a minute or 2 (about 10 times a day) but the charge seems to last for 3-4 weeks before it needs recharged. I actually bought another one for a friend due to its that good.5best in class by far..all a pen light needs to be.With all the high end 160 lumen 5 mode edc "penlights"available its definitely easy to find one that fits your needs.. Think about what you're really using a pen light for..quickly throwing some light in a dark area.. Doctors ,ems types and folks in trades can appreciate a quality tool that lasts and works.. This light works. 50 or so lumen is plenty for most tasks if you need more maybe an actual flashlight is what your looking for..I have preon2 mto6 nitecore and a handful of off brand 2aaa lights and the majority are heavy ,fat ,or a pain to run with all the modes.. This light has one mode..on . nice focused beam and its thin..almost as thin as a bic pen. The rechargeable battery pack and method of charge is genius..3 hours of run time. I wish all my lights charged this way with a "stick it in the port " system.5
