Customer Reviews

So far so good !Just got my Canon MG5722 printer a few days ago and here's what I think so far:1) The setup was somewhat confusing and seemed complicated, but if you use the online setup instead of the disc, it's more straightforward.2) If you have more than one computer that will use the printer, first set up the one directly connected to your router. (Mine is a desktop PC connected to the router, and I set it up for USB connection to the printer, while my laptop is set up to use wireless connection to the printer. That way I can use the laptop in another room to print. The wireless connection was easy to set up (in the printer' settings display screen) using the router's original password.) It does take a bit for the print job to get processed wirelessly, but not unreasonable.3) Other folks have complained a lot about the newer Canon printers being VERY noisy. This one is too, if you don't use the handy Quiet Mode setting! At first, when I shut down the printer, it did a lot of whirring and "grinding" before it shut off. But then I discovered if you select to not automatically perform cleaning functions of plates and heads (again in the printer' settings display screen) it doesn't do that.UPDATE: the above "fix" doesn't seem to work any longer - the printer goes thru a weird cycle of noisy whatever when you turn it on, before it settles down to begin printing. If you're in a rush you'll no doubt find this annoying!4) A really nice function is that you can scan two parts of an image that's larger than 8.5 X 11 and stitch them together. I haven't tried it yet, but was happy to see that option.5) The paper drawer doors are a bit flimsy, so be very gentle with them, as it seems they could break easily.6) There are a lot of settings for you to customize, which is great.7) Finally, I had a Canon iP6700D for years, which I LOVED, but it recently died, and no one can get parts from Canon to repair it. After reading a lot of funky reviews about the newer Canon printers, I was leery, but this model had the least negative reviews, and I'm cautiously optimistic that once I get used to it, it'll be fine.UPDATE: LOVE the wireless capability and have had no communication issues between my laptop and the printer which is in another room.4Excellent printer! Weve had a couple of weeks now ...Excellent printer! Weve had a couple of weeks now and i have printed many pages and its worked perfectly for every print job...double sided, single sided, multiple pages...its a huge improvement over my previous canon printer i had from 3 years ago. I love that the controls are all in the front and it looks like. I hope i dont have trouble changing the ink ....that will be the next big trial although it looks like it will be very easy because its all in the front too ..i wont have to remove the printer from my bookshelf to do it!4Canon MG5720 Wireless All-In-One Printer (White)I've always considered HP as my printer of choice but after an exhausting investigation and reviews reading i decided to try Canon and see for myself which one was the one that best suited my needs.Well i was amazed because the printer was delivered before i expected it so that is a plus. The first thing i noticed was the packaging. It was extremely well protected under a few layers of foam and plastic (inside two boxes). My impression when i finally got through all the boxes and plastic and saw the printer was yo say WOW. I loved it even before using it. I ordered it in white and i think i made the best decision. It looked so fine and exquisite. During my whole life i could say that i've had a few printers and i can assure you that this is the most beautiful one i've had. Now, setting aside the beauty of the item lets talk about how it works. Setting up the computer with printer was beyond easy. I was used to spending hours trying to set up my former printers and between taking of security things and software installation i could easily spend the whole afternoon. From taking off plastics and boxes to printing it took me less than 30 mins and i dont know you but i really don't like to waste time.Personally i dont like having cables or wires in my desk or around my house so this is also another plus for this printer since its wireless and you can print not only from the computer but even from your cellphone or tablet. After the installation was completed i had to try and see what i could do with my new acquisition. Well, i printed a set of phrases and colorful pages and my facial expression would have explained you why i love this printer. The printing was perfect. Its colors where so bright and every detail was splendid. I usually paint in my free time and i say that because when you paint you have to take a deep look into the details and make them perfect and that's what this printer did to my pictures and printings, it made them perfect and could even say, FLAWLESS.5How to setup for Chromebook only useSeems like a decent printer. Especially useful if you want a printer where you can print directly from a chromebook without the need for a PC or Mac. The only thing I don't like is that the ink cartridges look really thin and I suspect they may need frequent replacement. Also, Canon does a horrible job describing how to set up the printer for a chromebook. This is sad because the printer was actually quite easy to setup for a chromebook. To help you out, I have taken some time to write out the steps that I followed to get my chromebook connected to the printer (without a PC or Mac):Canon Google Cloud print setup[...]Yes, you can and here I explain, as best I can, how to do it. These instructions will be of particular interest to anyone who ONLY has a chromebook. First of all, Canon's instructions are useless in this regard. Second of all, if you go to the Google's Cloud print site and recommended printer page for Canon is also useless.Fortunately, it is actually pretty simple to setup, they just don't tell you how. I will try here. Also, here is some more good news. You can set up everything with the printer and chromebook completely wirelessly!First, make it through the Getting Started 1 instructions that come with the printer. They tell you enough to get through the ink cartridge install. If you don't have those, but your ink cartridges are installed, you can still proceed here...If the printer is trying to "help" you with instructions, cancel out of them. Hit the Home key to get to the main menu.Second, you need to connect the printer to the wireless LAN. In the printer menu, go up until you can see the Setup option and then select it. At this point, you have a graphical menu. If you go to the right, there is a Settings option, if you go to the left there is a Web services setup menu. First, go to the Settings option. There should be a LAN settings option. There, one of the options is to do WPS setup and I recommend that if you're wifi router supports that. It is by far the easiest option. If you choose the option on the printer, it then tells you when to go press the WPS button on the router. After you have connected the printer to the router, you can then...Third, register the printer with Google Cloud Print. Hit the Home button on the printer and again go up to to the Setup menu. This time, go to the left to choose the Web services menu and you will find a Register Google Cloud print option. Do this. It is effortless on your part. After the printer is registered, it will ask you to print the authorization web address (URL) and a QR code. Type the web address into your chromebook and that will authorize the chromebook to print to the printer! Yay! At that point, you are basically done. In the chromebook, you could go to the Advanced Settings, Google Cloud Print, Manage to make sure that you can see the new printer, but I'm not sure you need to.At this point, you should be able to choose Print on the chromebook and see your new Canon as an option in the print menu. Hope that helped! One last thing, here is one Canon video that I found that actually did help, but you must get the printer connected to the wireless LAN before you can use this: [...]4I'm using this printer for edible printing.I think the printer was fairly easy to setup it took a while for all of the files to download, twice as long as my Epson Workforce.I'm using this printer for edible printing so I bought different ink cartridges from Icing Images. I think it came out great for my first time.5This is the one you want.PRAISE GOD! I just got through returning the HP DeskJet 3633...PURE HELL. Out of ten attempts to print, it printed ONE page without jamming and it was brand new. I returned it and I thought I'd never be ready to deal with that kind of frustration again. But lo and behold, I found this printer, the Canon MG 5722. IT's amazing. It prints quick and clear. It prints easiily from my phone, tablet and computer NO USB is included or required. unless you don't have wi-fi in the home. Please note, if you have an internet connection, but not wi-fi, this will not work.Anywho, if there's an error message when there's no paper, it prints when there's paper, if the door is shut, it prints when it's open, no need to clear it and reset it and restart it and all that nonsense. One tip: I got stuck on the directions for setting it up for WI-FI then I realized that's just the point that I had to insert the CD and it took it from there. I initially couldn't print from my phone, then I realized I had to connect my phone to the same wi-fi as my computer instead of just using my own connection. This printer is a dream for anyone who does not want to be frustrated with difficult set up and non-properly functioning issues. This is a solution rather than another headache.5Speedy Printing & Scanning from the Canon MG5721Easy to set up on a MAC but the scan button on the printer, itself, isn't compatible with the MAC (I've run into this issue before with other printers as well). This printer doesn't hold a lot of paper and the way it holds paper isn't shown in the photos. The paper tray is in the front, on the bottom, of the printer. There is no drawer that holds the paper, it is "exposed" at all times. In other words, if you want to close up the front of the printer for a nice clean desktop, you have to remove the paper in the paper tray to do so.This printer does a good job with 2-sisded printing and it prints pretty quickly. Scanning, through the software, is pretty fast, faster than the Epson WorkForce WF-3620 WiFi Direct All-in-One Color Inkjet Printer, Copier, Scanner that it replaced. The Epson worked well for a long time until a paper jam did it in for good. I'd read that the Epson printers suffer from a lack of durability and I can attest to that. Plus, the scanning on the Epson printers is very slow. The only thing that the Canon is lacking is a document feeder. I knew that going in, so it isn't a big problem for me but it's a nice feature to have when you have to scan a lot of papers. Since the Epson was so slow at scanning, I guess I'm not that concerned with the lack of a document feeder.I know that the Wirecutter ranks the HP Envy 5540 Wireless All-in-One Photo Printer with Mobile Printing, Instant Ink ready (K7C85A) very highly as their "budget" pick but, if you don't print in color a majority of the time, it isn't a very good value (It even uses a combined cyan/magenta/yellow cartridge that requires replacing when just one of the colors runs out, which wastes a ton of expensive ink). I went with the Canon because I can use generic ink cartridges instead of OEM and not spend gob$ of money. Since I just got the printer, I haven't had to replace any ink cartridges yet but I will report when I do if there are any issues with the generic ink.The only other thing that I dont't like is that the lid covering the scanner is a little flimsy. Also, the gloss black get scratched very easily (I was dusting with a microfiber cloth and I can see all the little hairline "scratches" on the glossy black surfaces). The black & grey color combination is a perfect match for my iMac though.4Very happy with this Canon printerVery happy with this Canon printer! I've had several HP's over the years and switched to Canon after too many ink problems. This has a lot of features for a great price and the ink refills don't break the bank! The set up was easy and I've printed, scanned to my laptop and made copies with ease. Nice color display walks you through each process. When it's not in use, it closes up to keep dust out of the paper trays. Very happy customer!Note: I do a small amount of printing/scanning/copying so this was not purchased to be a workhorse. But it's the perfect solution for my needs.5It's okay - you get what you pay for.I bought this to replace my Canon PIXMA MX892 which suddenly decided that it would act like it's printing but spit out blank pages. After much effort in trying to clean print heads and fiddle around with other possibilities, we opted to get a new printer. However we needed an inexpensive model as I was recently laid off (and am no longer using it for my home office, just personal use). So I went with this one.I can definitely see the difference in quality between the >$200 MX892 and the $70 MG5720. Besides the lack of ADF and fax function, the tray doesn't automatically open when you print (instead it gives you an error until you manually open it), and by golly is it loud. The MX892 was also loud before I put it on quiet mode, but this one is even loud on quiet mode. It's just obnoxiously loud on regular mode. Who on earth thinks it's okay to make a printer THAT LOUD? Anyway... Besides it being loud when printing (on quiet mode), it also feels a need to move its parts around and make all kinds of noise a few minutes after you print anything - this takes it about 30 seconds (?) each time. If you have a baby, DO NOT print while they're asleep! Especially if the baby is in the same room! Also, installation was a pain in the butt for Mac. I kept downloading different drivers from the website because it said that my OS might have compatibility issues (it doesn't, I checked before buying it). But I had to d/l each driver separately from the Canon website and then open it then run it then blah blah blah - it took forever and I probably installed multiple copies of the same drivers by accident in all the confusion. When I want to scan, it won't let me just push the start button... I have to open some tool on my Macbook... I've not quite perfected using a Mac to scan items, even with my MX892, so this may be my own problem. But either way, I find myself plugging in my MX892 whenever I want to scan something because it has ADF and it's easier to use.So - my review is "it's okay" - you get what you pay for. It's not a horrible product. But I would much rather use Canon's higher end line than this unit, if given the opportunity. Something to consider. Do you really need to save the money? How often are you going to use it? If you need it several times a week, I'd pay a little more for something higher end.3Very nice machineThanks happen don'cha know. My Epson all-in-one had a clogged nozzle problem I just couldn't fix and found myself needing a new printer NOW. Before I owned the Epson, I had a Canon that liked a lot so I started looking at Canons first. The MG5720 is less than $100, and the ink is affordable so that's three stars right there. Another star for looks. It's half the size of my former Epson and the white color and slim silhouette are bonuses. Another star for noise level. This machine is amazingly quiet, printing is fast and print quality is great. I like the wireless capability, though that's not why I bought it and I don't use it that way. The USB connection is fine for me right now. It's fast and intuitive to set up and run. Highly recommend.5
