Customer Reviews

Solid I was very leery of buying a universal mount because they can be made really cheap. I was most worried about the flexible arm being so flexible that my phone (myTouch 4G) would bounce up and down.Well this mount did a great job. Not only is the arm stiff as all get out but the bottom two arms are adjustable so that you can move them out of the way of your connectors. Not an issue on my phone but still a great feature. The arm is very long and will work well for those cars with long slanted windshields. Unfortunately I drive an older truck with a near vertical windshield. To get around this thing poking me in the eye, I was able to bend the arm in a 'S' shape thereby effectively reducing the length of the arm. All is good. The suction cup hasn't come off yet.The vent adapter works fine but I don't use it in my truck. It is nice to take it with me when I travel and get a rental car. That way I don't have to remove it from my truck each time I need to put it in a different car.Bottom line, good product and I would buy it again. 5Stable device, but shakes PDA I purchased this for my Sprint Mogul. It holds the device very securely, but when the flexible arm is in a curved position from my windshield, it has some "play" in it that causes the PDA to vibrate when going down the highway. If the arm is straight, without curves, it doesn't seem to have the "play" in it. I returned the first one to Amazon for replacement. The second one they sent me was far worse...wish I'd have kept the original. It is acceptable, just annoying to have to put my hand on it to read it when driving. I didn't try the vent mount. 3Some problems Mount plastic is sturdy and suction cup is strong. Unfortunately the part that holds the PDA detaches from the gooseneck or vent mount (this is obviously necessary so it can be used either way). When using the gooseneck it is easy to detach the two pieces and knock the part holding the PDA off the gooseneck entirely... very annoying. When using it as a vent mount you really need to keep the PDA vertical rather than horizontal (which is the way I prefer it when using the PDA as a GPS) since there is a joint that causes the PDA to flop downward when in this position. 2wobbly mount Pros: Good suction, plenty of options (window, dash (via sticker + suction), and air vent), pretty good constructionCons: phone wobbles while in mount, too short, suction too big at 3" (hard to find a spot to mount it), too bulky (eg, really impedes if on windshield), expensiveMy excitement waned pretty quickly when I figured out that it would be really difficult to find a place to attach the mount. Options are very limited b/c it's a little too bulky. The phone holder does not attach very tightly to the suction or vent mount so it's constantly wobbling. The vent mount is supposed to be convenient, but really sticks out too far from the vent (maybe 2"). It's also very unstable and actually fell off the vent a couple of times. The device clasp doesn't grab as tight as I'd like. It really needs to have more "steps" where it catches.I was really hoping this would work out, but I think the better option is just a $5 clasp from walmart and some velcro tape on the back. This will have a lot more options on placement and be *much* more stable. 2the design is fine.. Product did not last long. First, the design is fine...for the phone types that this would fit or cater to. The whole pieces...er, pieces are made just fine (hard plastic). The biggest problem I had with this mount is the suction cup. I live in California and after the first hot summer the suction seemed to dwindle in its effectiveness. Truth be told, I have bought several of these types of mounts and I didn't learn the first time. I am not saying they are NOT good. What I am saying is the elements presented in where I reside did not make for a good product. Therefore, I can not recommend this product :( 2OK but BIG I will have to echo some of the other reviews I have seen on this product. It actually seems to work quite well. The suction cup holds firmly to the windshield. Most surprisingly the vent clip seems to really hold firmly (but is easliy removed) and also provide the ability to tilt the phone so it can be easily seen. However my goal was to have a mount that I could travel with and use in rental cars along with my smart phone nav system. It doesn't seem that this is the right solution for that. The phone holder is BIG. The phone holder then mounts on the appropriate car adapter mechanism - suction cup/goose neck or vent mount. The vent mount part is acceptably small. If there was a smaller phone carrier, this would be ideal. 3Does what I need, most of the time. My vehicle doesn't really allow for me to use the windshield or sticky mount set up, so my review only covers the vent mount setup. For starters, it took me about 10 minutes to get this set up, simply because doing this with only two hands ended up being pretty difficult. I understand that the clasps need to be able to latch on to the vent, but as I have seen others say, it wasn't exactly a walk in the park.Once on, it stays on...pretty well. I use this with my ipod as well as my PDA phone, and it has no problems latching onto them, and I have had no issues with the devices falling out of the clutches. However, when I'm driving, one of the vent grips tends to lose hold after a while, and my device is usually sitting a bit to the side instead of straight up and down like I would like it to. It can be a bit distracting, and my passenger usually needs to push it back up in order to get it situated again, because I can't do it one handed while driving.Overall, this isn't a bad price, even though I wish I would have just gone with the vent mount package instead. The device does stay secure, and it has a button to pop open the clutches so that your can quickly take your phone with you when you leave the car, or put your ipod in the glove box while. It can be a bit annoying at times, but for the other 95% of the time, it does exactly what I want it to. 4Fairly good generic mount for my Treo 650, but not the most portable I bought this unit to mount my Treo 650 while I am using my TomTom navigation system. I like the fact that this set has both a windshield mount and a vent mount using the same sled. My thought was that I could use the same set for both a permanent (windshield) mount in my car, and as a portable unit that I could take on the road.Well, the universal sled itself is fairly large and chunky. This is not an issue at home, but it's not the most space-friendly when I'm traveling on business. The vent mount works fine, but a better design for the hooks for the air vent would have been nice (you must manually put on and take off the hooks). The sled itself is adjustable, so this unit could be used with multiple devices.Overall, this is a good value. However, I'm now searching for a vent mount that can clip to the belt holder of my Treo case. 4Holds Palm Treo 650 nicely I bought two of these; one as a replacement for a Palm-supplied one that I left in a rental car in London. These are fairly heavy-duty considering the low cost. The plunger in the middle of the vacuum cup is metal, which is good since my baby daughter broke one with all-plastic construction by pulling it right off the windshield.I haven't used the vent mount; only the suction cup and gooseneck. The gooseneck is quite short. The unit would vibrate if I didn't mount it at the left corner of the windshield, so the bottom of the mount rests on the dashboard. One nifty feature is a joint on the end of the gooseneck, which allows tilt/rotation for optimal viewing angle. 5Wrong product shipped EDIT:I have since talked to the seller and they are refunding the difference in products. The original product featured in the picture has been discontinued. The seller is attempting to find existing stock to send me. They are refunding me the difference between this charge and the charge for the new product that is available.===============I've used the product pictured here before. I lost it on a trip. When I ordered this product last week however, I recieved this instead: http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-SM410-Universal-Windshield-Smartphones/dp/B003ELOOZO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1363822890&sr=1-1&keywords=Arkon+car+mount - though of course not at that price. Still the full $21 charge. The product pictured was great, and the product I received seems good as well, but the neck is several inches shorter, which makes a difference in how it mounts in my car. 4
