The Arkansas stones in this set are the same stones that come in the wood boxes. The difference is this stones are permanently glued to a wood base. The wood base holds the stone in place while sharpening and provides the proper knuckle clearance for sharpening. The kit includes a Soft, Hard and Black Arkansas stone. The Soft Arkansas is used to repair badly worn or damaged edges, the Hard produces a very fine edge and the Black Arkansas is an extra-fine stone and was traditionally used to sharpen dental tools, surgeons scalpels and straight razors. The Arkansas Stone Kit is available in 6", 8" and 10" size. Made in Arkansas, USA.
