Customer Reviews

Super Hero Customer SupportSo I rarely write a review, but I felt I needed to for this product. After receiving the filter system, I was excited to install it. I attached one of the filters to hold the system up and mark where I would mount it. It was going well until the whole top popped off and it fell to the floor. Yep I messed up, entirely my fault, and of course it broke, no like really broke it bad. So, I e-mailed customer support, which quickly replied that I needed to call their customer support number to set up an account to order parts. So the next day, I did just that. I called explained exactly what I did, that it was my fault, and the Awesome support person on the other end became my hero. (Her name was Rebeca) She simply said no worries, when did you purchase, 2 days ago, that is covered under warranty. So here I am in all my man shame admitting that I messed up, that it was my fault for dropping it, and Aquasana sent me the replacement parts. (which I received in three days! )Super customer service from an American company, supporting their American Made product.Today, the install went smooth and was done in about an hour, as I was taking my time and being cautious this round ;) 5) easy to use and takes up very little space on ...Elegant and functional. I thought I would lose a ton of space under the sink but I didn't. I set up autorefilled on the filters (though if I had an Apple I could monitor everything on my phone :-( - make a Samsung app!!!) easy to use and takes up very little space on my sink. Water tastes good as well 5Easy to install. Great price for the unit. Down grade to a 2*Took me just over an hour to get this unit install and working. No leak to my surprise as other viewer(s) wrote. I can really tell the different in water quality directly from the faucet vs this unit since I don't have any mean to measure the water quality so I will go with the assumption, the water is filter through the system unit. I would have give it a 5* but I held back due to the Bluetooth feature. It does not do anything.I spoke to fast. After the unit was installed and working for a few days. One of the filter started to leak. So I downgraded it to a 2 stars. 2Easy install, saves money on water bottlesI installed this in under an hour while my husband went to the hardware store. Our new home has a refrigerator without water in the door. Go figure. It s a streamlined subzero model which is a great appliance but lacking a very essential need - drinking water. So we ve been buying bottled water for 6 mos now. I looked at getting a water cooler but hated the idea of water delivery or buying big 5 gallon jugs. I also didn t want another appliance cluttering up my floors and hindering my robot vacuum. I opted for this unit after reading all the great reviews. We didn t have enough sink holes to accommodate the faucet so we opted to remove the air gap in lieu of the high loop method. We aren t supposed to do this because of building codes but drinking water wins. I had the unit installed before my DH returned with the fittings for the high loop. Looks good, water tastes great and is colder than the cold in the tap and I can save money by refilling my own sport bottles. Success! 5I really want to love this system. But...I have mixed feelings about this filtration system. I really want to like this system but there are a few things holding me back from a 5 star review.Pros:- Water tastes great.- Great filtration for the price, I feel like the filters are high quality.- Installation was a breeze, instructions are very clear.Cons:- The bluetooth feature is a total gimmick. This feature only exists to allow the app to detect the presence of the filter. There's no water consumption or actual filter life data being transmitted back to the bluetooth app. Once the app detects the bluetooth signal you're asked to label the filter location and the date and time in which you installed it. Now why would you need to provide the time and date you installed it? Because...as I said, the filter doesn't actually receive any data from the filter, you have to provide the date and *THE APP* will calculate the expected life based the installation date. This is total BS and in my opinion is Aquasana trying to pull one over on it's customer base.- Push connectors, for the price I would have expected threaded fittings. I would recommend a leak sensor with automatic valve shut-off, unfortunately, this will eat up a good portion of your savings (not all!). You should consider this when looking at the $500 competition.- I bought two of these systems, one of the systems I received had a leaky pre-filter. Amazon to the rescue with their stellar returns policy, but the %50 failure rate out of the box doesn't impress me.In summary, I know this filter system will bite me in the biscuits at some point, it's just a matter of when. I've got enough technology in the house to absorb the risks and I don't really miss the bluetooth functionality (I noticed it had it after I bought it). 3Hate it! Water tastes terrible.Water tastes terrible. Also, I couldn't install it right away because I had to wait for my kitchen remodel to finish. Because I've passed 30 days since purchased, I can't get a refund from Amazon or Aquasana. I did a taste test with purified water purchased from the store versus Aquasana and the purified water from the store tastes much better. Also, the canisters are very hard to open to change the filter. And today, after 8 months of use it just stopped working [no water comes out of the filtered water spigot] and Aquasana can't explain it. Ready to throw it out and get another system from another company. 1Water taste great....No major complaintsThis filter has been working fine so far and the water tastes great. There are 2 small issues I have. 1) The filtered water faucet that comes with the unit is nice looking but is not nearly as sturdy as the one that I replaced it with. 2) The flow of the filtered water is quite slow compared with what I was used to. I am not sure if it is because it is a 3 stage system or because the lines are smaller than what I had before. I would mostly likely purchase again, but might inquire about those 2 items first. 4Great water, nice looking faucet, pricey filters, and (currently) no Android version of the appI've been using the Aquasana AQ-5300 for over three years now, and overall, I really like it. The filters are relatively expensive, but I think it's worth it for the water quality. The 5300+ is noticeably taller (see attached photo), has Bluetooth, and offers a (IMO) modest improvement over the 5300 in terms of flow rate. If you don't care about the Bluetooth app (which is currently only available on iOS), I suggest considering the 5300 given the more compact size, lower cost of the initial system, and the less expensive replacement filters. That said, I don't think that you'd go wrong with either choice. Seriously - the water quality is very good. Before I get much into a comparison to the 5300, seeing as how many of you won't own that, I'd like to say how much I like the Aquasana 5300 and 5300+ overall. Very good water quality, attractive (but not perfect) included faucet, and easy installation.Prior to getting the 5300, I bought a Filtrete 4US-MAXL-S01 under counter system and used it for about 10 months. It uses one filter, is fairly compact, filters out lead (which I wanted, and why I stepped up from Filtrete's lower priced filter), and cost about $100. Overall, I was happy with the Filtrete, but the water was always fairly aerated (bubbly) and some of the bubbles would stay around for hours. The water tasted fine, but that did bother me a bit. I used it constantly for myself (to drink, make coffee, cook, and so on), but the lasting bubbles bothered me enough that I did not like giving it to my dog, Niki (RIP, dear friend). I know that sounds odd to some of you, and totally normal to others. :)Without repeating my review of the 5300, I think it's a superior filter to the Filtrete. Despite being larger and more expensive, it's a better buy because the water is better. It has a very smooth poor, and mine doesn't have any bubbles in it. Just crystal clear water. The 5300+ provides equally good, smooth water. I highly recommend this 5300+ or the smaller 5300 for the water quality. I've been paying about $55 every six months (on Subscribe and Save) for replacement filters for the 5300, versus about $20 for the Filtrete, because I truly prefer it. The filters for the 5300+ will be more expensive. Some quick notes for those of you with an existing under sink filter system - (1) the water line to the filter may be a different diameter (the Filtrete and Aquasana are different), so you may need to replace the connection to your main water supply, and (2) the water line to the faucet is likely the same size because those seem to be standard, so you should be able leave your current faucet installed and just connect that water line up to this filter system if you want to.Installation: 4 StarsNot too bad, and shouldn't be a problem for most folks.(*) I absolutely hated the plastic "T" that came with the Filtrete to connect the filter into the main water line, so I went out and bought a brass "T" and compression fittings. The 5300 and 5300+ came with those already. Nice!(*) Installing the water line onto the faucet on this unit might be a pain because it was difficult for me to reach in under the sink and screw on the compression fitting. Unfortunately, because of the way that the Aquasana under sink washer is designed, you can't attach the water line first and then thread it through the sink hole - you have to attach it under the sink. The Filtrete faucet has the water line built in, so you don't need to try to screw on a compression fitting while you're contorted under the counter. The key is the notched washer that the Filtrete uses that can slip over the threaded pipe under the faucet. I tried to find a similar one to point you to it to make installation easier, but I couldn't find the correct name for it - sorry about that, but maybe you can find one(*) I didn't screw the filter holder into my cabinet, nor did I do that with the 5300 or the Filtrete. With the Filtrete, I just wrapped the filter in a towel and placed it under the sink. I wrapped it because that filter is light enough that the water pressure from turning the faucet on and off would cause it to jolt and move. These filters are heavy enough that I can just have them sit under my sink and they are fine. I did use twist ties to connect the water lines to something under my sink to keep them from moving, but I don't know if that's really necessaryFaucet: 4 StarsHmmm. The faucet is very attractive, and I love the brushed nickel finish, but the handle isn't as functional to me as the one on the Filtrete. The 5300+ and 5300 have essentially the same faucet, and for over three years with the 5300, I used the faucet that came with my Filtrete because I like the handle on it better. This faucet is more attractive, no doubt, but there are a couple of things about the Filtrete that I prefer. First, the Filtrete handle is just easier for me to use. I flip it up to turn it on, and down for off. The handle on this faucet rotates, and the angle of rotation is inconvenient for me where it's located on my sink. Second, installing the Filtrete faucet is easier as noted above. The brushed nickel won me over, though, because it matched my Moen faucet so nicelyWater Quality: 5 StarsAs mentioned above, this unit wins hands down, IMO. Because that's why I buy filters, it's an easy call for me to recommend this unit over the Filtrete.I think that the 5300 is a great filter, and so is this 5300+. I didn't notice that much faster flow rate on the 5300+, so the smaller form factor and less expensive filters on the 5300 might be a good option for you unless you really want the Bluetooth option to track filter use. As a note, you need to create an account with Aquasana to to that.Great filtration, attractive faucet (with an inconvenient swivel direction for operation), and pretty simple installation. This and the 5300 are recommended by me. 4EXCELLENT VALUE AND QUALITYThis is an excellent product; I was skeptical at first (as lots of advertised items in this world are disappointing); however, I am extremely happy with this filter system. My first cup of coffee and glass of ice tea was a delightful surprise. When comparing a cup of this water to tap water, there is obviously a difference. I'm on a community system and had noticed a slime feeling in the water; that's definitely gone now. I was even able to install it without any hitches (of course it's not fun for a half-crippled old man to lay on his back under the sink) but anyone with a minimum degree of common sense and skills should have no problem. My sink had a pre-drilled hole for the faucet that was 1-3/8" diameter but the faucet plate covered it just fine. No leaks at provided tubing fittings and the food-grade tubing slipped into the filter holes and sealed just fine. You really can remove the filter assemblies without turning off the water supply. Two very good videos are there and I highly recommend that you watch them. Just be sure when tightening the fittings to hold back-up to the piping (unlike the video shows). I would recommend to mfg. to include longer tubing lengths to enable a choice of installed locations of filter. Filters are a bit pricey but hey, what's your health worth, eh? All in all, I love this thing!!!! Sorry, gotta go for another cup of this good coffee.................... 5Great mid-priced filtration systemWell-priced, stylish faucet, matches our main faucet's arc and finish perfectly, water tastes great after initial rinse out & one day of use. Doesn't require much space under sink & doesn't waste water as some systems do, in order to create filtered water. My very handy husband, who is experienced on a variety of plumbing projects installed with no problems, and no leakage as of two weeks from install date. His advice, read the instructions. Follow the instructions. Check out other reviews on installation for a good survey of how to get it right. Liked it so much we bought one for the master suite too. 5
