Five StarsGerman made quality - so far holding up pretty good in a Beach Home with salty air and water5Weather resistant, reliable, and tough. This is a great low-medium security padlock for a shed door or similar application. It has been holding up very well against the elements on my outdoor shed. It would be much easier to simply bust through my shed door with a sledge than it would be to cut through this lock, so I see it as an effective deterrent, which is all that's needed. Excellent product.5Good quality weather resistant lockAbus 160/50 padlockJust received this new lock; I intend to update this review in the future after some time using it outdoors to lock a bicycle. After much research, I got this along with a hardened Guard Security 968 chain. Bought these instead of a Kryptonite lock & chain that has a lot of users saying the lock is hard to operate, or absolutely won't open, after a while. The vulnerability it previously had has apparently been fixed: I was NOT able to decode the combination using the depth gauge method shown on multiple old YouTube videos (e.g. one from Swynndla). So apparently Abus has redesigned and improved the model 160 to eliminate that vulnerability. Since YouTube reviewers/pickers said it was a good lock except for that one vulnerability, now fixed, I believe this is a pretty secure combination padlock. However I'm neither a professional nor amateur locksmith, so someone else might be able to find some weakness. The lock is apparently made in Germany. The back of the lock I received was engraved with ABUS, No. 160/50, ABUS D-58292 Wetter. When I Google searched "D-58292 Wetter" it seems to be part of their address in Germany. This lock is apparently NOT made in China (horray!); it doesn't have any "Made in ..." labeling on the package or lock, but the only country shown on the package is Germany. The package does have a sticker on it saying "WARNING: This product contains a small amount of lead..." and on the Abus manufacturer product description page (sorry, Amazon doesn't allow me to include the URL) it has the California Prop 65 warning, but so does just about every product made now, so I'm not too concerned. Prop 65 warnings unfortunatley now are so common they're like someone "crying wolf" every second of every day, so I'm tempted to think they're meaningless or at least not a good indicator of real risk. Sad.I've changed the combination and the lock is working great so far; no defects. 4 stars only because I hesitate to give anything 5 stars if I haven't had a long time to evaluate a product.4Sturdy lockSturdy lock, lasted several months out in the elements with no signs of corrosion. It does have known flaws and with basic practice is easy to open. If you have anything a professional burglar might go for don't use this lock. But it has been a great lock for the price.5Outstanding quality. Head and shoulders above all other lock brands. This is my second purchase of Abus padlocks. Abus is quite simply the best quality combination padlock that money can buy. Over the years, I have tried virtually every model Master Lock combination locks, and they have all failed after a relatively short time out in the weather. Master, made now in Red China, is no longer a quality product, as it once was. I tried other lesser known brands and had similar bad experiences. So I was absolutely delighted to see the fine workmanship of the Abus lock. I could tell as soon as I had it in my hand that it was a work of fine craftsmanship. These are made in Germany, and are not the cheapest locks on the market, as one would expect. But the quality and longevity of Abus locks actually makes their total cost of ownership less that cheaply made locks which don't last. I give this lock my highest recommendation. (I am ordering 3 more of other outside gates.) You will not be disappointed.UPDATE:05/28/15Some impressed with quality that I purchased 3 more.5Mediocre lockI have had other Abus locks that I liked, but this one just feels cheezy. On the package they show a security rating of 6 out of 10. That sounds about right. Bright chrome finish glares in the sun. Numbers are very difficult to read, especially with the glare. I'm using it to lock a container full of construction tools. I will not return this lock, but definitely looking for a sturdier combination lock.3still working good. So far doing really great on an exposed shed door. Still as smooth and opens as smooth as the day it was new. Been thru many rains and a hurricane. No sat water testing. 5Poor quality control on this item - don't trust it.I once had a great one of these that worked well out in weather for years. So I bought several more for other outside uses; gates, containers, cables, etc. When I bought the next couple of batches, they did not work at all. I have had to throw away about 6 of these. Some: I changed the code but then the new code did not work so those padlocks had to be cut off. Others: whatever code you use, and whatever # combo you dial on the lock, it just doesn't matter - the padlock will open with a light tug so there is no locking. I am not sure what's happened to this product, but I suggest you try another.1A great gym lock that's easy to set and hard to defeat!I needed a lock for the gym and wanted something that wasn't easy to break or easy to "pick". Lots of the more common combination locks have numerous exploits that are easily learned from watching videos online. I wanted something that wasn't necessarily overkill but that also didn't scream "this one is easy to open!". This lock seems to be it!The four digit combination is nice as it presents a potential thief with 10,000 possible combinations instead of the 1000 that the cheaper three digit locks provide. Even if somebody wanted to sit there and try every possible combination and they could average two seconds per try it would still take up to almost six hours to find the right one (if they have to go through most of the combinations... figure 3 hours if they only have to go through half). A three digit lock only takes about a half hour to go through all the combinations under the same conditions. The lock is a nice heavy metal construction (208 grams on my scale) and has a nice shine to it. You'll be able to easily spot your locker!Changing the combination is super easy too. Once the lock is open just use a coin to twist the dial on the right side all the way to the right, set your new combination, then spin the dial back. Done!If you're looking for a decent gym lock or a decent lock for some other purpose then I highly recommend this one!5Very good qualityIt s a shame that these are not available locally. The best locks I own, good solid quality at a reasonable price. I went back and bought 3 more sets. Very close tolerances with smooth tumbler action. The finish quality is first rate5Anyone who can open can also RESET comboI am a property manager who has to deal with locks every day. I recently ordered the ABUS 160/50 All Weather Chrome Combination Padlock from amazon for about $24 for a gated property. The important feature to note with this lock is that anyone who can open the lock can also RESET the combination. What this means in property management life is that anyone who can open the lock can also shut out all other users of the lock by changing the combination unilaterally. Many competing resettable combo locks (Master, etc) require a special little key that must engage to change the combination. However, the ABUS 160/50 All Weather Combination Padlock has an exterior dial which anyone who can open the lock can rotate 120 degrees with a screwdriver and reset the combination, locking out all other users. I can forsee mega-hassles with this method of operation, not to mention safety issues for ingress and egress of all parties behind the locked gate. This is analogous to a website where anyone who can use the site also has administrative privileges and could shut the site down for all other users--a DISASTER. Otherwise, a great lock with super visibility and smoothness of rotation compared to Master.3
