Customer Reviews

so as long as you're not using this on a frat house I would imagine you'll be fine.Back when I was frat president, a lot of drunk girls kept falling down the deck stairs to our party house, so I bought some of this stuff and now less drunk girls in heels fall down the desk stairs to our house. #winningOnly downside is that it's peeling at the edges some and looks all worn and junk. However, that might be because we have tons of people going up and down the stairs every weekend, so as long as you're not using this on a frat house I would imagine you'll be fine. 4Non-Traditional Use, But Great ResultsI haven't used this tape for its intended tread purposes, but I did use it as an economical way to add grip to the soles of my shoes. If you've ever bought womens shoes, you'll know that most of the time the sole of the shoes have little to no grip on wet or slippery surfaces (unless they're walking shoes or sneakers). I needed a cheap way to add grip to all of my shoes and this tape does the trick! 5it's all in the prep work! tiled shower floor...i got this item because we have a grout and 1.5" x1.5" tile shower floor (shiny type of ceramic tiles). those rubber mats w/ suction cups never really stuck securely to the tile floor (maybe due to the placement of the tiles and grout) so it was very dangerous stepping in and out of the shower - plus, they are a pain to keep clean. so, i thoroughly cleaned the shower floor using muriatic acid (normally for swimming pools) and dried it as best as possible w/ a couple of dry towels. i cut long strips (like two 3' and two 4.5' strips), placed them so that the end pieces landed in the middle of a tiny tile to guarantee a good stick on the ends at least. the width of the tape is what made me nervous because it would land right where the edge of the tiny tiles curved down and the grout starts but after applying the tape, i pressed down the tape but paid more attention to the edges by pressing them w/ the waxy paper part of the sticky backing of the tread tape (the part you throw in the trash). in hind sight, i should have purchased that rubber roller that is recommended... but it all worked out great. it's been 2 months and all the tape is still down on the shower floor. no corners or edges are coming up, yet... looks good and is easy on the bare feet. my thinking is, if the edges start to come up, i can take an exacto knife and trim as needed. but so far so good. my dad uses this shower and he drags his foot due to a stroke so this tape works great for him. 5Excellent item, but installation can be trickyI bought these treads to reduce the "slipperiness" of my composite decking steps on the front and back of my house. I followed the package instructions to install. Bad move! After a few weeks the 3M treads peeled up at the corners, so I removed them and began looking for an alternative.I couldn't find anything better, so I ordered another pack of the 3M treads and installed as below:1. Cut the 3 M treads to appropriate length. 'Round off" the four corners of each tread, using a coin.2. Using a pencil, outline on the steps where each tread will go.3. Using the outlines of the tread as a guide, brush contact cement on the steps where the 3M treads will be placed, and allow the cement to "cure." (Contact cement in a brush applicator bottle is available through Amazon or any hardware store.)4. Place the 3M treads on the steps and press down. I put 2 x4s on top to add some weight and pressure.5. Stay off the treads for a few hoursThis seems to have helped. 4INSTALLED FOR SAFETY - GREAT PRODUCTWe recently installed in our tiled walk-in shower to make it more safe. I was worried about it possibly being too rough on bare feet, but that is simply not a problem. Make sure that you round the ends (easily cut with scissors) and that when you go to install, begin in the middle of the strip and work your way to the ends of each strip. This will get rid of any air bubbles that may later enable the adhering to become loose. Also when you prepare the surface, even when it appears to be very clean, use some rubbing alcohol on a lint-free cloth to remove any soap scum or other small filaments so that it adheres completely onto the surface. We have a north facing front porch and I am thinking of placing some of these strips on the porch where the step meets the porch for protection there as well. 5almost perfectMy dad is in his late 80s so I wanted to make sure the cellar steps were safe for him. He had already purchased small bright white strips (better suited for the bathtub). I replaced them with this wider, more secure and more textured tape and was very happy. The texture is not sandpaper rough, rather more athletic gear rugged. This is a quality product. So, why is my title "almost perfect?" Because it is dark grey in color (only option I could find). After affixing strips of this to each stair, I then had to cut up dad's old white strips and place a bit on each end of the grey strip and two long slivers between the edge of the grey tape and the very edge of the stair. The stairs now look like a runway at LAX, lol, but the result is everything I wanted. If this 3M tape came in off-white, of course, it would be perfect (dark enough to hide dirt, bright enough to reflect light well). 3M, do you read reviews? 4this was one of my worst purchases ever on AmazonI've always associated 3M with quality ...NOT SO! ...this was one of my worst purchases ever on Amazon. A couple months ago, I slipped on the back steps of my wooden deck and almost hurt myself. I did a lot of research and decided that I would cut and space strips of this outdoor tread tape and strategically place them on the steps for secured footing. Supposedly all you needed was a clean surface, peel back the tape, place it to the surface and press it down securely. It looked and worked nicely for a couple days ...until it rained. Then I noticed some ot the edges were starting to curl. I tacked them down with an electronic nail gun. Over the next couple weeks with various weather, practically all the edges started to raise and curl..If I caught this in time, I would have asked for a refund, but missed the deadline. With all this said, I would stay away from this product ...you'd probably have better success with gluing sand/gravel to the steps for better footing. 1It just works and saves my newly polished wood staircase!!!This is a great product, seriously. Measure twice and cut once then place on the steps. It does not damage the wood and stays on.Background: I just bought a house and had the carpet ripped out. I asked for a satin finish for the oak wood flooring. NOTE! Satin finish is super slippery so my kids slipped down the stairs. I did not want to put a carpet on the stair case nor carpet squares on the steps which requires strong adhesive. This quick, easy, and very inexpensive solution did the trick and saved my family from any tragedies. This color is not very noticeable with wood steps. Remember to cut rounded corners so it will look professional and remember to take your time and measure measure measure. 5Works extremely well indoors.I have seen a number of reviews here saying this product fails miserably outdoors. I cannot comment on that, I haven't tried them outdoors. I needed something to make a sharply inclined physical therapy exercise ramp safe, to prevent sliding off. I tried a number of anti-skid strips and they all failed under stress, slipping away from the position they were placed in and migrating down the ramp, or peeling off completely. I've had these on the ramp for months, so they have had a lot of use, and so far they are exactly where I originally put them with no sign of peeling off. The adhesive appears to be quite good and the grainy surface provides an excellent foothold for sneakers to grab to. If they will hold someone on a 25 degree ramp without slippage of either tape or foot, I have to assume they would do great on stair steps or floors, but all my experience with them has been in a dry environment.Pros - Stay tightly in place and provide very secure footing, even under the considerable stress of a sharp incline.Cons - Others have said they loosen and peel off in wet environments, I have not tested this. 5Quality grip tapeThis is the same 3M product they sell in their marine line, and it works very well. You have to have reasonable expectations about where it will actually stick, but rest assured this is the best product out there in this category. I use this on boats, have tried other brands, and strongly recommend the 3M line. This has a rubbery feel; other types have a sandpaper feel. Can also be applied on curved surfaces, as it will stretch a bit when you put it on. 5
